Choosing an IPad 2 cover is difficult to do at this time.  The manufacturers of IPad covers have been scrambling this week to fill the void that currently exists.  There has not been enough time to get all of their tooling reworked and provide a satisfactory product to the marketplace.  That being said, I'm sure that this will change over the next few months. 

Currently choosing an IPad 2 cover is pretty limited.  You can select one of the many sleeve type covers that are out for the IPad gen 1.  If you select one of these make sure it has a secure closure.  The new IPad 2 is roughly a third smaller than the current gen 1 product and there will be room inside any sleeves that were originally designed for the gen 1 product line.  There are some quilted sleeves that will take up the additional space that is freed up by the thinner gen 2 product.

If you are choosing an IPad 2 cover that is designed to protect your new device from impact and scratches two manufacturers have products that are ready to go.  Otterbox has an IPad 2 cover that is redesigned from their Defender series product line.  The Otterbox Defender is a three phase protection system.  A Polycorbonate shell  clips on to the IPad 2 which provides strength and corner protection to the IPad 2.  A silicon sleeve slips over the Polycarbonate shell to give the IPad 2 cover shock resistance.  The third side of the protection triangle is a screen cover that will do a good job protecting your screen from scratches.

The second manufacturer with product that is ready to ship is ZAGGmate.  The cover that this company provides is made from brushed aluminum with a bead blasted finish to match the finish of the IPad 2.  This cover only protects the face of the IPad 2 and leaves the back of the IPad open to the elements.  It does provide a nice compact package when closed.  The ZAGGmate cover can be purchased with a Bluetooth keyboard that fits nicely into the cover and provides a prop for your IPad to stand in either landscape or portrait orientation while typing.

ModulR is a manufacturer of an IPad cover system that is currently retooling their process to add the IPad 2 cover to their line of products.  This manufacturer produces a full cover with a novel set of attachment nodes integrated into the back half of the cover.  The nodes provide a way to connect the IPad to various accessories.  These accessories include a desk stand, a hand strap to allow single handed operation, a neck strap allows for quick access when both hands are needed for other tasks but the IPad needs to be close to hand and a wall mount.  All of these accessories are easy to connect and disconnect for ease of use.
