The Apple iPad 2 comes in many different sizes in terms of storage so which one is the best for you? The iPad is available in the basic 16GB, 32GB, and lastly the 64GB. Just so that you dont get confused, the price difference that you pay for in bigger capacity iPads are only for the storage size and not sacrificing any of the great features the iPad has to offer. From the 16GB or the 64GB, the iPad will be the same performance wise. Another factor that will affect the price of the iPad is if you decide to get a WiFi only version or a WiFi with 3G enabled version. The WiFi + 3G only comes available with Verizon Wireless and AT&T Customers.
First of all you should decide whether you are going to use the iPad for music, movies, apps, e-books, or all. This will determine whether you should make the extra investment of getting the bigger sized iPad to fit all of your needs. Most of your space will be taken up fast if you decide to fill it up with movies and music. With the average movie roughly being around 1GB and songs being 9mb for the average 4minute high quality 320kpbs audio, these are going to be the most space taking media for your iPad. If you do decide to go this route the higher end 64GB apple iPad will be the best for you as you can fit around 50 movies or 14,000 songs.
However if you plan to just use your iPad for your basics such as checking email, installing apps, and having a few e-books it would be best to go for the lower end 16GB version of the iPad. You should also consider whether you would be needed the WiFi + 3G enabled version also. If your going to be in areas that are WiFi enabled such as your business office, school, or most coffee shops the WiFi only enabled iPad should do you fine. However if you want the ease of mind that your iPad will always be connected to the internet no matter where you go the WiFi + 3G version is the way to go. Getting the WiFi + 3G enabled iPad does come with a price though, for an extra $130 dollars and data rates that your carrier provides you iPad can now be close to costing you $1000 easy.
The iPad is a bit pricey for most people out there, but for the quality of the tablet and the functionality it cant compare to others. There are lower alternative devices for the iPad however such as the Nook Color from Barnes and Noble and the Kindle Fire from Amazon. These tablets come fully equipped with email, WiFi, and color screen just like the iPad but lacks in storage space and functionality as it was made specifically as an e-book reader. Dont underestimate these products though, they can do the job just as well if you are planning to add a tablet computer to your arsenal of devices.
Lastly, dont forget that iPad 2 specs will stay the same if you were to get the basic 16GB WiFi only device compared to the 64GB WiFi + 3G enabled iPad so dont be afraid to get the lower end of the device spectrum. It will do you just fine.
The Nook Color and Kindle Fire aren't tablets as stated in your second to last paragraph. They are e-readers and they are promoted as such.
