I really love my new Le Pan TC 970 Android tablet. It has a slim profile and an intuitive navigation by way of its 9.7 inch display. Currently it's being shipped with the Android 2.2 OS but the manufacturer is promising an update in 2012. It supports Flash Player 10.2 which is perfect for surfing, watching 720P HD video and games.
Being an Android, it is comes with integrated Google technology such as Google Maps with navigation, Gmail, YouTube, just to name a few. Not to mention the thousands of free Apps available in the Android marketplace.
I found that the ARM Cortex-A8 processor with the 512MB of RAM has plenty of horse power for my needs. Typing was a breeze on the virtual QWERTY keyboard. Best of all is the 2.0 megapixel front facing camera making it easy for me to run around the house while on Skype with my friends. It also comes standard with Bluetooth, a SD memory expansion slot and up to 6 hours of battery life.
It basically combines the strength of my laptop PC with the mobility of my smartphone making a great technology companion. I personally like to use it for my business. I often need to show potential clients search results on Google so I use turn my Android smartphone into a wireless hot spot and log on to my phone with the TC 970 so that I have internet access anywhere. It's much easier to carry around than my laptop but has a much larger display than my smartphone. This makes it great for on the go presentations. My girlfriend likes it for much the same reasons except she uses it to be productive during her 1 1/2 hour morning commute.
Another reason why I prefer this Android tablet to an iPad is that the iPad OS is "proprietary" meaning the code it's closed off to the public. As opposed to the Android OS that is "open-source" meaning everyone has access to the code. What this does is makes it attractive to developers of new Apps. I don't know if you have noticed but number of new, free, cool apps being released on the Android Marketplace but it's giving the iPad a run for it's money.
Make sure you look around for more information on the Le Pan TC 970 and compare its features to other tablets within the same price range before you buy. You might also find it helpful to read the product user reviews.
Thank you for your time.
Here are the comments from LePan Support on the subject: Dear Customer, The official version of Skype that is released on the Android market does not support the TC970. However there is a tweaked version made by an independent developer that supports a front facing camera. You can download the tweaked version of Skype here (be sure to uninstall the previous version of Skype that is on your tablet): (Link omitted...contact Le Pan customer service yourself to obtain the link) 1. Download the file onto your computer 2. Transfer the com.skype.raider2-1.2.apk into your Micro SD card 3. Enter File Manager on your tablet and manually install com.skype.raider2-1.2.apk 4. After installation, open Skype and sign into your account 5. Go to Menu-> Settings-> Enable video calling 6. Then go to Menu-> Tweaks-> Enable Use Preview Surface It is a little glitchy at first establishing the video call, but if you fiddle with it, by pushing on the screen, and hitting the back button, it clears up. Hope this helps, feel free to contact us if you have any other questions. Thank you.
