Back in the day when I was really hyped up about buying and selling stocks, one of the first stocks that I wanted to buy was with the company that furnished the batteries or power source for the Apple I pods.
This was about six years ago even before Apple introduced its first i phone. Since then Apple as a company has exploded beyond what anybody thought. In addition their product line has gained a vast number of products ranging from the introductory Apple I pod to the Apple I pad 4 and Apples I phone 4s.
As I was curious then I am still curious now. About what? I want to know who makes what. Who is behind what makes up these Apple products?
Im not concerned about every one of their products at least not now. I just want to know about the I pod. What makes the I pod tick? I did some research and I want to share what I found out.
O.K., well based on Reuters documents 2007. The most important processor and the chips that hold memory and stores sound, pictures and other user data are made by a company from South Korea named Samsung Electronics.
The processors based on a design that's licensed from ARM Holdings.
Germany's, Infineon Technologies is the company that makes the phones receiver and broadband processor.
A company out of Britain named Wolfson Micro electronics makes the processing chip for audio. Wolfson is also the company that makes audio chips for Apples I pods.
This may come as a shock but the Wi-Fi chip that lets the I phone connect with the Internet is made by a U.S. company named Marvell Technology Group.
The cellular network power amp is given by Skyworks Solutions
Britain company named CSR. makes the Bluetooth chip
The USB battery charger supplied by Linear Tech. This part is also used in the I pod.
The Broadcom Corp. Is a company that makes components to support the touch screen.
The 2 mega pixel image sensor for the i phones camera made by Micron Tech.
The other components supplied by Texas Instruments Inc, a company out of Europe's named STM Micro electronics, Silicon Storage Technology Inc. and RF Micro devices.
These are the companies behind the company. At fist before I knew better I thought Apple pretty much did everything inside the company. I did not know most of the work that's put into an Apple product are outsourced. I know that outsourcing is the big thing now but I guess I never imagined Apple would be one of the many, many companies doing it.
Anyway in my breakdown of picking a good stock to buy. My search of knowledge as well as an understanding of a certain company led me to find out so much more than expected.
