How to Relieve A Headache

This is a question that is commonly searched for online. Many people suffer from migraines or headaches and are continuously looking for a faster, more effective way to relieve a headache. It is advised that individuals try various migraine and headache solutions and see which ones work best for them.

How to relieve a headache

Migraines or headaches are usually caused by blood rushing to the head; therefore, finding a way to cool down the head and body can help constrict the blood vessels in the head. Try taking a cool bath or sitting on a shower chair under a cool stream of water. If a shower or bathtub is not available, apply cold compresses to the front and back of the head and neck. In addition, massaging the temples with cold, wet washcloths can help relieve migraine and headache pain.

Other ways how to relieve a headache

Stress and anger can trigger both headaches and migraines. Find a cool place to relax, such as lying under a fan listening to an amusing comedy tape, or watch an amusing movie in a cool, quiet setting. Humor is always a good stress relief and takes the mind off of one’s problems. Another relief for stress caused migraines and headaches is aerobic exercises including walking, floor exercises or even sexual activity.

Meditating or sitting in silence in a dark room is another proven way how to relieve a headache. Shut off all the lights and make the room dark by closing shades, blinds and curtains. Just laying on the back in a dark, silent room can relax the whole body and relieve a headache caused by stress and tension.

While some foods are known to trigger headaches and migraines, other foods are believed to cure them. Caffeine can cause a migraine but on the other hand, it can cure one, too. Ginger, peppermint, fish, fish oil and spinach are foods that can also help with migraine and headache pain. Other home remedies for reliving headaches and migraines include rubbing lavender extract on the head, drinking lots of water and taking magnesium or vitamin B2.

The causes of headaches and migraines are uniquely different for every individual and can include smells, noises and colors. Sometimes just moving to a different room or environment can relieve a headache or migraine. One thing is for sure, it can be difficult but not impossible to find relief, because there is not one specific cure that works for everyone in their search for how to relieve a headache.
