Okay, who are these people who are getting taken in by the scams and obviously fake doctors out there? Seriously, if you are coming to an apartment building and then escorted to the bathroom, shouldn't that serve as a major red flag? Apparently it is not enough of a warning for some people as there are more than a few former "patients" of William Escobar, who has been arrested for, among other things, practicing dentistry without a license. In addition to that felony charge, Esobar will be facing several lower level charges including possession of needles and providing dangerous drugs. Escobar had been reportedly treating patients in his bathroom and may have been practicing orthodontics as well as simpler dental treatments such as cleaning and others.
Dentists, fake or otherwise are not the only ones who have made it into the news lately. Fake plastic surgeons and doctors have dotted the news feeds as well with their dangerous antics including a listing of materials that would make the average person's head swim. Oneal Ron Morris, the 32 year old from Florida was arrested after a customer/victim complained that the butt implants that were given to her had gone awry. Morris was later found to have been injecting people with mixtures of things like flat tire sealant, glue and even quick drying cement. Removing the botched implants was only the beginning of that patient's problems.
In the Queens, New York, Liliana Coello has also been arrested for much the same crime. Her customer/victim was injected with a mixture that could be saline and paraffin but complained only because the area was continually leaking. After Coello tried to repair the leaks with super strength glue and other sealants, the victim was forced to go to the local hospital. That person is now dealing with a potentially life threatening infection which could still turn into gangrene if treatment does not work quickly enough.
All of these victims were trying to save money, many of them for services that they didn't really need for anything beyond their own vanity. Now, they are not only out the money they spent on a procedure from an unlicensed and unsafe person but will spend as much as ten times the amount for a legitimate procedure to repair the damages and restore their health once again. What is even scarier is simple: for every one of these fakes that has been uncovered and arrested there are several more willing to step up and take their place, filling the gap in need without regard to health and safety.
You would think people would use a little common sense, if the person was a former dentist or doctor that lost their license, maybe it would be bad enough, but no license! WOW, I am amazed at how stupid people truly are. You can't fix stupid, as the saying goes, and so these crooks will continue to threaten the health and lives of others too cheap to get a real doctor/dentist. Thanks for the article, I enjoyed it!
