A trip to the pool is always a fun experience for the whole family. Whether it's the local swimming pool, your very own private pool or the large water theme parks with slides galore, the swimming pool always excites the kid in everyone. Summer is a great time for summer, making the pool a popular place to go to cool down from the heat. The pool can be fun, but it's also important to be concerned about safety especially in these areas. Below are some tips so that you can enjoy the pool without having to worry about something ruining your fun at the end of the day.
The pool can be a very slippery place, so it's important not to run along the edges. Kids can especially get overexcited when it comes to the pool so make sure to let them know beforehand. More importantly, make sure to bring the right safety equipment with kids. If you're just teaching your child how to swim, bring extra floaters as this will help with the learning process. For kids who are already confident, make sure to point out the deep areas in case they're overconfident with themselves and jump into the deep end of the pool without really knowing how to swim yet.
Common sense tips like the things above help prevent an unnecessary accident but more subtle health related things may not be so obvious in a pool. The pool can be an unhygienic place for families. Imagine, dozens, if not hundreds of people are using the same pool on any given day. Of course the common courtesy with pools is that the person swimming take a shower before going in first, but who really gets to check?
While the pool itself is sanitized with chlorine, the rest of the area isn't. That's why it's important to be hygienic to avoid any unfortunate case of bacterial infection, stomach flu or other minor illness that could ruin the day or week for your family during a vacation.
One of the most effective ways to avoid contact with germs is to of course shower before and after going in the pool. For those people who aren't swimming, it's still important to maintain good hand hygiene, so at least wash your hands regularly during and after leaving the pool. You may not notice it but you are touching surfaces with lots of germs that came from other people in the pool.
Doing this could save you money in the long run and prevent a potentially bad case of some germ related flu.
