Many people wonder how to improve blood circulation. There are many different things that you can do to improve blood circulation, but they will require you to make some simple lifestyle changes and perhaps even alter your eating habits. However increased blood circulation means that your immune system is able to get blood to areas of infection faster and prevent colds. When you improve your blood circulation, you will be improving your overall health and clearing up any conditions that you are currently experiencing.

First, you must realize that symptoms of poor circulation develop gradually. While you may not feel like you have poor blood circulation, it may be developing if you eat poorly, have chronic conditions or a sedentary lifestyle. Some of the first symptoms that you might notice are occasional cramping or fatigue in your legs, aching feet or cold hands and feet. This indicates that the blood flow isn't effectively reaching all areas of your body.

Some of the long term affects are more serious. In your brain, you could start to experience fatigue, dizziness, memory loss and frequent unexplained headaches. Poor circulation to the heart will lead to inability to do cardiac exercises, heart attack and chest pain. If your circulation isn't reaching your liver effectively, you may notice a lack of appetite, unexplained weight loss or changes in skin tone. Poor circulation in the kidneys can manifest itself as swelling in hands, feet and ankles. Varicose veins and numbness are the result of poor blood flow to the limbs.

Some of the causes of poor circulation include cholesterol plaque build up in the veins and arteries. People hwo do not get enough antioxidants in the form of fresh produce, oily fish and whole grains often have poor circulation. Chronic disease, such as obesity or diabetes often indicates that there is poor circulation in the body. Tight fitting clothes can constrict blood flow to certain areas of the body. Smoking constricts blood flow to the heart and brain. Stress is another cause of poor circulation in hands, neck and shoulders.

What can you do to increase blood circulation? Improve your diet. Start to include more fruits and vegetables which have bioflavinoids to promote blood flow. Get more nuts in your diet. They are rich in vitamin B3 which helps boost the blood flow. Garlic is another food that increases blood flow naturally. Also, make sure that you avoid transfats, sugary foods, soda and fruit drinks.

Finally, you may want to include some alternative therapy weekly. Acupuncture, acupressure and massage are great ways to improve your energy flow and blood flow. Not only that, they make you feel great and boost your energy.
