Keeping the brain sharp can be easily accomplished by doing mental challenges on a regular basis and incorporating foods in the diet that promote brain health.
A good way to train the brain is to take on activities such as Sudoko, cross word puzzles, and brain teasers. Chess matches, checkers, scrabble, and card games that involve strategy are also excellent and enjoyable ways to keep the brain honed. It is important to keep learning. Try new hobbies, take an online course, or get some do-it-yourself books and start a project. You can teach old dogs new tricks and keep the brain young. Be sure to keep connections with friends and family to maintain regular communication. Letter writing and email are also sure to keep one thinking and memories fresh. For women, estrogen levels are needed for a strong memory. The doctor can prescribe hormone therapy if decreased levels are an issue.
Exercise for the body is also key. When people exercise regularly, it relieves stress which keeps mental functioning at an optimal level. Doing what makes a person happy and pampering one's self are also helpful for brain health. The better attitude a person has, the more likely that person is to be inquisitive and alert rather than sinking into a slump and repetitive thought patterns that are not helpful in any way. Whenever possible, write things down to have focus as well as reminders and use the brain instead of a calculator to remain sharp. Nutrition is another important aspect. Wild salmon, cacao beans, Matcha, which is a type of powder made from green tea, blueberries, and coffee beans are all thought to enhance brain functioning. Eat well and stay lubricated with plenty of water. Keep brains strong.
If you feel like your memory is getting worse or that there is something not right with your health you should visit the doctor as soon as possible. A doctor may carry out a MRI scan or an ultrasound scan to see if there is a medical reason for loss of memory. The sooner you find out what is wrong the more chance you have of getting help.
