Your body needs sleep for many reasons. To heal, to grow and well...to rest. We all live stressful lives and one of the best ways to reduce anxiety naturally is to ensure that we get a great night's sleep. Many people struggle with how to sleep better, but there are some simple things you can do starting as early as tonight.

Here's how one can reduce anxiety by getting a great night's sleep simply by using 5 simple steps:

Step 1. Shut off all electronic media an hour before bed. The main reason this is important is the fact that your brain will not sleep well if it is over stimulated. It'll be really essential that you pay close attention to this because too many people have the bad habit of watching TV in bed, or taking their laptop or smart phone to bed with them.

Step 2. Have a regular bedtime "ritual". This really is an important part of how to sleep better. There should be certain routines you go through before bed that cue your body that it is time to wind down and go to sleep.

Step 3. Try to go to bed at close to the same time every night. The reason why is to set you body clock to "sleep time". Another reason for this is just to get into a good habit of allowing yourself a full 7 - 8 hours in your schedule for sleep..

Step 4. Try not to stress if you wake up during the night. Specifically, don't look at the clock to see what time it is. Trust that you will get back to sleep without knowing what time it is. Run a movie on your mind of the happiest memories you have until you fall back asleep..

Step 5. Make sure that you don't set yourself up for failure by going to bed either hungry. I know many diet experts say you shouldn't eat after a certain time and it is hard to sleep well if you are digesting a huge meal. However, there is nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night with a rumbling stomach when you are stressed about getting a good night's sleep. Momma was right, a glass of milk and a cookie before bed can help you sleep. Just make sure it's small glass of skim milk and lowfat oatmeal cookie.Also, limit your liquids after 8pm. You don't want to have to get up to use the bathroom either!
