Lose Post Baby Weight  -  5 Key Tips to Get Your Body Back

Having a baby is a wonderful and happy time, but many new moms are left with a body they may not be so happy with. Sound about right? To lose post baby weight successfully is going to take some patience and determination on your part, combined with these 5 key tips:

1. Food Changes. Just making simple changes in the food you eat will go a long way. Switching from refined grains to whole grains not only helps to prevent constipation, but whole grain foods help to keep you feeling full longer and contain more nutrients and fiber than refined grains. It is also a good idea to switch from whole dairy products to lighter versions. For example, light cheese instead of regular, 1% or skim milk instead of whole or 2% milk, fat free/low fat yogurt instead of regular, etc. Also, instead of drinking juice (even the 100% fruit juice kinds), it is much better for you to eat a piece of fruit. Fruit has more nutrients and it will help to keep you feeling full longer.

2. Chef Skills? To lose post baby weight, it is best to avoid processed foods. The best solution? Cook your meals yourself. This way, you can control what goes into your food, so that you can make it healthier. Processed foods tend to be loaded with sodium, among other unhealthy ingredients, leaving them quite unhealthy for you.

3. Portions. Portion control is very important when trying to lose weight. Think about your plate as you're about to eat; have your protein on 1/4 of the plate, your starch on 1/4 of the plate, and then 1/2 your plate filled with veggies/salad. Always only eat just until you are full, not stuffed. Overeating will just result in weight gain, not weight loss, so just keep portion control in mind when you eat.

4. Exercise. Yes, I know, many of us groan when we hear the word, exercise. Unfortunately though, it has to be done in order to lose post baby weight. The most beneficial way to exercise is to combine cardio with strength training. This will shed fat off your entire body and tone you up, giving you a fabulous end result! Important Note: Please make sure you have the "ok" from your doctor before beginning any exercise routine.

5. Grocery Shopping. We have all heard that we should never grocery shop on an empty stomach. Well, sometimes it happens though, right? The best idea is to always be prepared for when hunger strikes. If you are about to head out grocery shopping, even if you don't feel hungry at the time, grab a healthy snack to take with you. The best type of snack is a complex carbohydrate (like a fruit or a veggie) paired with a protein (such as a handful of almonds or pre-portioned cheese, such as Baby Bel brand). This type of snack will help fill you up as well as keep your energy levels up!

There you have it! These 5 tips will help you to lose post baby weight, and transform your body back to its pre-pregnancy shape...or even better! You will also feel healthier, have more energy and less fatigue (which is very beneficial to a new mom!).
