Bench Press Gains
It is every beginners goal to obtain a massive bench press. It's what we base our idea of improvement on. At one point in time I based my success on my bench press gains. As long as we see improvements in that area, most of us can stay motivated to keep doing the same routine week in and week out.
What most of us don't realize is that once our muscles get used to doing the same thing on a regular basis, they grow accustomed to it. When that happens, all the bench press gains are going out the window. It's the same with the rest of our muscles as well. Once we hit one of these plateaus, it's very frustrating and easy to lose the motivation to keep at it.
Muscle confusion is one of the keys to achieving natural muscle gains. All you have to do to keep your muscles from adapting to the routine is to change it. It doesn't take much to get our muscle back on track again. Even minor adjustments to your workout schedule can make a world of difference. Let's say for instance that you start your weight training with flat bench today, on your next chest day start with dumbbell flies or cable crossovers. Switch your routine on a regular basis, this will help you to continue getting max bench press gains.
Another important thing to remember when you are trying to get natural muscle gains is, your muscles have to rebuild. In order to do that they need two things, nutrients and rest. Many people have this misconception that the more often you work a muscle, the faster it will grow. Well, that is completely false. When you weight train, you are breaking down the muscle fibers. When they rebuild, they improve, and for them to rebuild they need the time to do it. I myself adopted a 3 day on - 1 day off schedule, working each body part once in that 3 day cycle. That's the schedule that helped me acheive the largest and most consistent bench press gains.
As for nutrients, the most important for you to get plenty of is protein. It is referred to as the building block of muscle. In order for you to get natural muscle gains, you are going to want to consume quality protein. You can do this with food or with a protein supplement, that is entirely up to you.
I have seen many people come to these plateaus in their bench press gains and just give up when all they needed to do was variate a little. If you come to one of these spots where you aren't seeing the improvements, look at the areas that i touched on today in this article. If you are still not seeing results, I suggest doing some negative reps, just do so with a spotter or fitness coach.
