Six pack abs are a very impressive thing to possess. They are a sign of youth, health, and overall athleticism. The are also one of the hardest things to get. The problem is the sheer amount of bad information out there about how to develop a proper six pack. The truth is you can get a set of six pack abs fast and "easy" if you follow the science and not the "gurus." The thing about science is that there is always atleast some evidence behind the claims made.
Remember, that there is nothing stopping anyone from saying any stupid thing. Think about your personal life- how often has someone you know, your family, or even YOURSELF bent the truth for this or that reason. It seems to come disturbingly naturally, does it not? This is the reason why there is so much bad information out there. Each time a bit of information passes from one person to the next, it changes atleast slightly (usually a lot more!).
With this in mind, we will rely on science to show us the way! Building muscle is a very simple process: you simply give the body stimulation to grow. It is not about going to your absolute limits of exhaustion twice daily! Your body with only recover and grow if you give it the time too. I do not believe in overtraining, rather overreaching. Ask the body to do more than it can manage and you will waste a lot of time and energy. Everyone has different limits so take the time to push yourself until you find yours!
Muscle grows best in response to more strength oriented training. Endurance type exercises (like doing hundreds of crunches) will "feel" like a good workout but that is simply a buildup of lactic acid. Endurance training will build up your endurance but not much else. Strength training teaches the body that you are in an environment where you need big, powerful muscles to go about your day-to-day activities. Your body will oblige you by devoting resources (assuming you have good nutrition) to developing that strength and size.
Always remember these points and you will be doing better than 90% of the people trying to get abs. Do not just take my word for it, though. Be a part of science and do your very own experiments and keep track of how it turns out. There are plenty of resources if you need ideas for different methods to try.Always be trying something new but at the same time keep the basics together.
Happy training!
