There are plenty of reasons you should stop smoking and without a doubt one of the most important ones have to do with your health and the health of other people. While many people know the dangers of smoking, they think that those things will never happen to them and that they can quit whenever they want to but these people are deluding themselves. The addictive substance in tobacco, nicotine, is just as addictive as some of the more dangerous drugs in the world such as heroin and crack cocaine. This is because all of these drugs cause the release of dopamine which is the chemical responsible for pleasurable feelings in the body. After years of smoking, when you finally do try and quit, you will find that it is much more difficult than you had imagined. It is best to try and quit now, while you are still in decent health, than to regret your failure to take action in years to come. Below are some of the ways your health can be affected by tobacco smoke.

One of the most powerful and painful effects of tobacco smoke lies in the damage done to your lungs. Tar is one of the most harmful substances in tobacco and when you smoke it is this substance that seeps into the lungs causing them overtime to turn black. Another effect that tar also has on the body is it fills up in the little sacks that carry oxygen in your lungs. The result is that you will find the longer you smoke, the more your capacity to take in oxygen in reduced. This means you will not be able to perform the physical activities you were able to without running out of breath sooner. If this goes on for long enough, you will not be able to do your daily chores without running out of breath very quickly.

Second hand smoke, which is smoke inhaled by people around the smoker can actually be more harmful than first hand smoke and this means that you are also affecting the health of those people you smoke around. This could be your loved ones or your children also so you really have to think about the effects that your smoking is having on the people around you.

While quitting is certainly not easy, it has become easier for many people. There are many products out there that are designed to eliminate the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal and these have helped a great number of people stop smoking in recent years.
