Hearing sounds that nobody else can hear can go from scary to annoying until it finally gets to be debilitating because you are unable to concentrate or sleep fully because of the constant noises in your ears. Tinnitus is actually not considered to be a disease but is considered to be a symptom of an issue or issues in the body. Whether doctors can discover what this issue is, no one can say.
Though those in the medical profession may not consider tinnitus to be as serious as other conditions like cancer or diabetes, it can be debilitating and affect your ability to concentrate on work tasks.
There are many tinnitus treatment options that you can try in order to obtain relief but it is important to remember that this is a hard condition to treat. What may work for one sufferer may not work necessarily for you.
Tinnitus Causes and Remedies
A. Tinnitus Causes
In many cases, your doctor may have no idea why you are hearing constant buzzing, clicking, roaring, whooshing, whistling, hissing, ringing, etc, in your ears. In other cases, the causes of these sounds may include;
i. impacted earwax which can be easily treated by removing the buildup which may cause the strange noises to go away.
ii. Ear infection may be another cause that once treated may make the sounds go away.
iii. Loud noises can lead to hearing loss which may cause tinnitus.
iv. Hearing loss resulting from old age can also increase the risk of tinnitus.
v. Head or neck injuries are another cause.
vi. Tumors affecting an aspect of the ear can increase the risk of developing tinnitus.
vii. Using certain drugs repeatedly such as aspirin, ibuprofen, etc, can also increase the risk, and so on and so forth.
Pulsatile Tinnitus Causes
As mentioned previously, most sounds associated with tinnitus can only be heard by the sufferer. In very rare cases, someone else usually a doctor applying a hearing device to the ear may be able to hear the sounds. This usually only occurs when the sufferer can hear his or her own heartbeat which is known as pulsatile tinnitus.
Pulsatile tinnitus causes include suffering from chronic stress and anxiety, high blood pressure, neck and head tumors, arterial damage, etc.
B. Tinnitus Remedies
Unless your tinnitus is caused by impacted earwax or an ear infection which can be easy to treat, it can be difficult to find a treatment that will get rid of the sounds. There are however, many tinnitus treatment options that may work for you including;
i. White noise machines to block out the sounds in your ears.
ii. Hearing aids with a masking feature to improve your hearing while blocking out other noises.
iii. Changing medication if the medication you are currently taking is causing this condition.
iv. Using medications not to block out the sounds but to minimize your response to the symptoms such as through the use of antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications.
There are many other ways to treat this condition especially through natural methods such as tinnitus homeopathic treatment, acupuncture, herbal remedies, etc, which may be considered effective cures for tinnitus for some sufferers as they may be able to work to eliminate the bothersome noises you hear in your ears for good.
