A great set of six pack abs for the summertime is what every guy wants, but for many, that goal just seems to keep getting buried further and further under a nice jiggly layer of fat. Pizza, Chinese food, and burgers have taken there toll on your midsection, and all the soda pops and beers have not helped the situation much. Add very little exercise to the equation, and you have a formula for disaster. However, there is some very basic advice that can help you to start reversing the affects of all that junk and fast food, and create a proper six pack abs diet that will put you on your way to a flatter stomach. All it takes is a simple ratio of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

Carbohydrates are the battery of the body. They are stored energy in your body that is then broken down from within to create fuel for cells and muscles. Ever hear about athletes carbing up the day before a big game or big event? They do this because when you consume a whole bunch of carbs, you then have extra energy stored for the next day to be broken down for fuel, thus allowing you to have more energy for an extended period of time. In this sense, carbs are good. However, if you consume a large amount of carbs and do not exert the energy that is stored, it then is converted into fat and deposited in various spots all over the body, mostly the stomach, thighs, and butt. This is why it is so important to watch your carb intake because if your diet is rich in carbs like the typical American diet is, and your amount of physical activity is low, that is going to lead to some steady weight gain. A proper six pack abs diet will have you consuming carbohydrates as 50% of your diet. So if you base your diet around 2000 calories which is very typical, you will need to consume 1000 calories from just carbohydrates. Each carb contains four calories, so you will need to consume 250 grams of carbohydrates a day. Make sure your carbs are coming from good sources such as whole wheat, whole wheat pasta, potatoes, brown rice, fruits, and vegetables. Avoid sugar, white bread, white rice, and non whole wheat pasta. These simple little carb tricks will do a lot of good towards creating a nice six pack, and will give you the basis for a balanced six pack abs diet.

Protein is found everywhere in your body. Your hair and nails are largely composed of proteins and proteins are very important in building bones, cartilage, skin, and of course, muscles. Your body also uses protein to repair and build tissue. When you lift weights, you are essentially tearing apart the tissues of your muscles, and in return these tissues need to be repaired and rebuilt. If you consume a correct amount of protein, this helps aid the process of rebuilding and restructuring your muscle tissue, causing you to gain muscle faster and quicker. This is why protein is so important to bodybuilders and fitness trainers. A good six pack abs diet will have you consuming protein as 30% of your diet. Again, based on a 2000 calorie diet, you will need to consume 600 calories from just protein. Each gram of protein contains four calories, so you will need to take in 150 grams of protein a day. Good sources of protein are lean meats such as chicken and turkey, egg whites, beans, tuna, and powder supplements. Protein is very important to a six pack abs diet and getting enough protein everyday is essential in creating a sexy six pack.

Fats are the enemy of a good six pack abs diet, but that does not mean we get rid of them all together. Your body needs fat to survive. Fat insulates your body organs and protects them from shock, fat helps in maintaining a stable body temperature, and fat aids in hormone and testosterone production. Testosterone is very important in creating a ripped stomach as it is directly linked to muscle growth and development as well as sex drive. Without fat in your diet, your testosterone levels will fall, causing you to struggle in developing muscle and decreasing your sex drive. Not a good combination. As you can see, fats are an important part of a six pack abs diet, they just need to be monitored and used in the right combination. A good six pack abs diet will have you consuming 20% of your diet through just fats. Staying with the example of a 2000 calorie diet, you will need to eat 400 calories just from fat. Each gram of fat contains nine calories, so you will need to eat around 45 grams of fat a day. Monounsaturated fats are better for the body as they actually lower cholesterol levels unlike saturated fats which raise cholesterol levels and cause clogged arteries. Good sources of monounsaturated fats are olive oils, cashews, almonds, dressings, vinaigrette's, fish, and fruits. Getting the right amount of fat is key to creating a toned midsection, and it is a very important component in a well balanced six pack abs diet.

Carbs, proteins, and fats utilized together are an awesome team for building a set of great looking abs. Using them together to build a well balanced six pack abs diet will put you on the right path towards getting that flat and toned stomach you have always wanted. A little hard work, some exercise, and a balanced six pack abs diet and you will be well on your way to having an unforgettable summer.
