The One Food Diet-How Variety Can Be The Vice Of Life

Watch people at the next all you can eat restaurant or buffet line you go to and see how they behave. Surrounded by an overwhelming array of sweet and savory, hot and cold and everything else that is there, they load their plates until they haul them back to the table, groaning under the weight of it all. They eat everything they have selected, not happy with any of it. Why are they unhappy? Is the food not delicious and well prepared?

It doesn’t matter if it was prepared by top chefs from the finest culinary schools in the world, the simple fact is they are thinking about the foods that are on that buffet table that they have not tried. They are sensory overloaded so they cannot actually enjoy anything because they want everything. The one food diet works on the premise that you can decrease this over stimulation and focus on what you are eating, enabling yourself to actually eat less.

But, people might become confused with the one food diet plan- it is not just the one food for the while time of the diet, but one food at a time or one food for the day. It can work, especially if you are a person who is overwhelmed by too many choices in your diet. There are some things that you should keep in mind before you try the one food diet for yourself.

First, the one food diet is not giving you free reign to eat your favorite food all day or in any amount. You still have to make good food choices and you still have to eat the foods in the right amounts. Calories still count, even if you are only eating one particular food type. A good food for the one food diet would be chicken, for instance, not cheesecake or candy.

Second, the concept of the one food diet is to get you to focus on the food you are eating, tasting it, savoring it instead of just wolfing it down. While that is certainly something that everyone would benefit from, just eating a single food item for an extended period of time can be very unhealthy and may lead to some very serious vitamin and mineral deficiencies. This is obviously not going to be a good diet plan for extended periods of time.

Finally, those who have chronic conditions such as diabetes or others, should consider speaking to a doctor before trying the one food diet or any other diet plan for themselves. It can be hard to remain satisfied with just one food type all of the time. Diets are hard enough to stick with as it is, trying to stick to the one food diet may be too much for many people to bare.

The one food diet can be a great way to kick off a diet plan or to put you in touch with your hunger, your sense of taste and your motivation once again.
