You start a new diet and you get that nagging question, "will this diet work and how long before it shows results." People the world over go onto a new diet and find out after a few days nothing is happening, they check and find they are the same weight as when they started. They don't seem to have lost those love handles or that fat belly.
Now they start to think the diet is rubbish and they will blame whoever it was for suggesting the diet....Their friend probably said it was the best one to go onto and it had worked for them. Diets do work and they work right away but the body takes longer to respond to the changes in the diet they are now on.
The body is a complex machine and cannot be hurried along, A balancing act takes place within the body, between what it requires to keep you alive and the excess goes to producing fat and muscle. The body needs to be fuelled up every day. When you exercise, you burn off some of that fat and firm up the muscles, this is when the balancing act comes into play.
(1) Eat as much as you like, whatever you like, pasties, sandwiches, cheese burgers, cream buns, toffees, sugary drinks, until you are full, sit back in your favourite armchair and watch TV all day, munch on a few delicious chocolates. HEY PRESTO! a few months later you are becoming overweight.
Now your heart will start to work harder as your arteries start to clog up, your blood flow is very much reduced. Your joints have to now support a greater body weight. You are finding it harder to breathe freely. Soon you will be ripe for arthritis, diabetes, heart attacks and heart disease. You are on your way out!
(2) Eat a healthy diet, take an excessive amount of exercise, now your body is burning up all the food and energy stored in fat and some of the reserves to keep you alive, the heart and your body's muscles have not got enough energy and will be struggling to find reserves which you do not have anymore.
The diet is good but the balance is off by the excessive exercise routine you have set yourself. You have a false impression that if you do strenuous workouts all will be OK....NO, you don't need to burn your way right through the gym floor. ou are starving and on your way out!.
(3) Eat a healthy diet, cut out the sugar, keep away from sugary drinks, drink a lot more water than before, at least a pint at every mealtime, don't eat in excess, stop smoking, take up swimming, walking or a good workout that any good gym will set out for you. Now you will see the body respond after only a couple of weeks, you will feel on top of the world, you will start to notice you are getting back to the weight you should be for your BMI. You are living...Yippee!.
So you see, a diet will work if you only give it a chance and a little time. It does not happen overnight. Get yourself onto a good diet with more fruit and vegetables in it. You will soon get back into shape.
