For those of you from the UK with a memory that can take you back to 2008, you might remember Diana Vickers falling ill to Laryngitis, resulting in a week off stage and an escape from a live performance on TV for the public vote. It caused quite a stir. For the rest of you in other parts of the world, you'll probably not have a clue what I'm on about here.
So here's the story in a nutshell.
Diana Vickers. An English singer and songwriter, who started off her career on the UK edition of The X Factor show. She done good to get to the live finals where the public could vote her to win the show, or off the show as it turned out. Needless to say, she didn't make the cut after the press and fans of the show caused a bit of commotion for her.
Any guesses what people thought?
The show was rigged!
It is unusual for a contestant on the show to be given a live performance off and a free ticket to the next round. That's what the press reported it as anyway. So because it's suggested, there's a public outcry.
Well, Diana actually had to have that week off. She came down with laryngitis. Now, I don't know about you and singing, but I'm relatively sure that when your throat's infected and inflamed, it's going to be awfully painful to go on stage and start belting out a tune.
I would think anyway.
Whether she should have been allowed that 6th week off or not isn't what this is about. It's about how some home remedies for a sore throat could've made the difference to her voice, before it went south for her.
Did you know a garlic clove can make a huge difference to someone with laryngitis?
Actually, there's more foods than that. Those foods are called anti inflammatory foods. When it comes to home remedies for laryngitis, foods are going to be hard to digest when your throat is in agony. That's where things like Aloe Vera juices can help people out with a sore throat. All you need to do is gargle it. You can also find some ancient Chinese recipes for making tea with stuff like elm bark tea.
Having just started looking into laryngitis home remedies, I was surprised to see the amount of treatments there are available for people to use at home without needing prescriptions.
Salt water - I already knew that would help as it's great for a ton of minor health issues. Maybe you know that too. If not, try gargling salt water the next time you have a sore throat.
Garlic products though? I didn't know that they contain a high amount of anti-inflammatory agents that help ease the pain from laryngitis.
If you or anyone you know, (maybe someone who likes singing) is bothered with laryngitis quite a bit, you may want to let them know about about the Diana Vickers laryngitis story and show them that even laryngitis won't end the possibilities of a singer making it in the music world.
Has your voice been lost to laryngitis before?

Hi Robbie, I don't know who Diana Vickers was (or is) but it was a great way to promote your point. I have a sore throat at the moment and it's a good reminder for me of the simple things I can do to help. Thanks.
Hi Heather. Glad you found it helpful. Personally I've always used Tunes or Halls Soothers, so I was quite surprised to find out about the other stuff that helps.
Robbie I can attest to the fantastic ability of a clove of garlic, my wife took a clove every day for years until her colon cancer suggested she stop. She used it and got phenomenal relief from arthritis, now that is because of the inflammatory easing capabilities of this natural product. So from that I'm sure a inflamed sore throat would get the same result.. It is good for so many different things. We give it to our dogs as well, it seems to keep the fleas and ticks at bay...and generally gives their coats a beautiful sheen.. Underestimated I think...
Cool Rob. Learning a ton about it here.Like keeping fleas and ticks away from pets, shines their coats etc. Sounds more of a wonder food!
