Healthy Heart and A Healthy Body
There are millions of people in the U.S. who suffer from heart disease or are in a high risk category. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation out there and many people are unsure of how to address the problem. Obviously consulting your doctor is of the utmost importance, but the following are some helpful tips to help create a healthier you. Keep in mind that when adopting a better diet and a workout program it's important that it suits your lifestyle and attitude. Something that adapts to your schedule and maintains your interest is the best way to keep your positive changes permanent. Keep in mind doing things to help reduce your risk for heart disease will have not only a good effect on your cardiovascular health, but your overall health.
Why You Should Stop Smoking
Don’t smoke, yes this is an obvious one and the smoking rate in the U.S. has been going down, but it is still an issue and more needs to be done to prevent young people from starting and helping older people stop. The numerous toxins in cigarettes are a huge risk factor for heart disease.
Get More Exercise.
You don't need a hard core, strenuous exercise program, for many people a longer but less rigorous plan works best. Simply going for a walk can help strengthen the heart and reverse some health risk conditions. If you have a scenic or quiet route to walk it can also be very calming and stress reducing, which is also good for the heart.
De-stress Your Life
Life is already short enough, enjoy it. Stress is terrible for the body, especially the heart. Lowering your stress or anxiety level is not an easy task but definitely an important one. Use whatever techniques work for you, whether its exercise or meditation, find something and use it. If you have problems in lowering the stress in your life don't be afraid to talk to a professional. Reducing stress is very important in keeping yourself healthy.
Heart Healthy Diet
Watch out for completely low-fat diets. It's possible your heart condition could get worse. You want to drop the bad fats, like hydrogenated oils. You want to keep eating healthy fats that are found in foods like olive oil, avocados, salmon and most nuts. Also try to reduce or eliminate processed foods, sugars and refined carbohydrates. It's also important to eat small meals throughout the day to keep your metabolism steady. Remember, better nutrition and moderation with your eating habits and some form of even mild but regular exercise will help you have a healthier heart and body and a more enjoyable lifestyle.
Great article agree with all points except in my case the smoking. If I give up now there's a better chance of it killing me than continuing with the habit.
Got that right, I had trouble finding a place there where I could smoke, spent most the time with a play play smoke in my mouth. Just goes to show it is purely a habit.
