Reduce your meat consumption and if you do have red meat, eat low fat cuts. A serving size of meat should only be as big as the palm of your hand. Cakes, pastries cookies and cakes are often high in fat so exchange these for a piece of fruit instead.

Start a regular exercise program. Exercising regularly is not only good for the body, but good for the mind as well! You can start small and build up till you are doing 30 minutes of aerobic exercise a day. Not only will it help you lose excess weight but exercising helps lower cholesterol levels. You will also have more energy and a better mood, which helps reduce comfort eating. Choose an exercise you enjoy and take a friend to help keep you motivated. Try to keep it interesting by trying different activities. Walk instead of driving where possible.

Reach and maintain a healthy weight. Having excess weight means your heart has to work harder to pump the blood around. It also increases your risk of heart attack, stroke and other illnesses. By reducing your weight to a healthy level you will lower bad cholesterol and reduce the risk of chronic illness. Following the diet recommended for reducing cholesterol levels will help you to lose weight as well.

Add more fruit and vegetables to your diet. Fruit and vegetables have amazing health benefits! They contain many vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and micro-nutrients. These nutrients work together to strengthen the immune system and heal your body from the damage of a poor diet. Fruit and vegetables contain a lot of fiber. This fiber helps to reduce the absorption of cholesterol into the body. It also keeps you fuller for longer, so your blood sugar will be more stable and your cravings less intense. Make sure you have green vegetables every day as these are the most nutritious foods available. Try adding a vegetable and fruit juice to your breakfast each day for fast improvements in your well-being.
