Do you suffer from acid reflux? Do you automatically reach for a prescription drug as soon as you feel the pain starting? Here are some facts about those tablets you are taking that may just change your mind about them. Maybe it is time you considered trying some natural cures instead.

When people experience the pain brought on by acid reflux, it is only natural to turn to some of the drugs on the market that are offered as a cure for this condition. Prilosec, Nexium, Prevacid, Zantac as well as many other such drugs are widely used to treat acid reflux. The drug companies spend a lot of money on advertising these drugs because they make a lot of money from selling them. Take the drug Prilosec that is made by AstraZeneca, this drug makes over 6 billion dollars a year for the company so it is no surprise that they want you to buy it. Incidentally, when the patent on Prilosec expired AstraZeneca spent 5 million dollars promoting its replacement called Nexium. Believe me, there is some seriously big bucks made by these companies just from making drugs to fight acid reflux.

Here is one thought for you to keep in mind – drugs do not fix acid reflux!

In fact, medical science confirms that lowering the amount of hydrochloric acid produced by the stomach is the worst thing you can do. That, by the way, is exactly what most of these drugs do.

So, what can you do to help fix your problem. Well, you probably have the answer sitting in your kitchen cupboard.

Garlic. No doubt you have heard of this herb and its uses in cooking, but did you know that it can help in the fight against acid reflux. We should all be eating some fresh garlic everyday as it has antiseptic properties and will kill some real nasty bugs that inhabit our stomachs. This in turn will help with your acid reflux problem, just remember that chewing on some parsley afterward will help get rid of the smell from your breath.

Apples. As the old saying goes, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. It also helps to control acid reflux. Just eat an apple or two each day and you will soon feel the benefit. Also, apple cider vinegar works just as well. Simply take a couple of tablespoons each day to get some real relief from that burning pain.

Ginger. Simply get some ginger and use it to make a tea. Drink a cup of ginger tea three times a day for relief from acid reflux. To make the tea, simply grate some ginger into a cup and add some boiling water. Allow it to stand for a few minutes to infuse and then drink it all up.

So, herbal remedies for acid reflux are not so difficult to find. Remember that drugs may not always be the best answer and you should ask yourself whether you really will benefit from taking tablets or are you just lining the pockets of the big drug companies.
