One of the most worrying heartburn side effects is the pain in your chest which leads many people to believe that they are suffering from angina or that they are having a heart attack. Well, the symptoms are similar so sometimes it is well worth having a check up, just in case. Ignoring this could be fatal. Heartburn is just one of the consequences of having GERD (gastroesopahgeal reflux disease).
Another one of the heartburn effects is that fact that you may get as well as the burning pain, these awful leg cramps which are sometimes called a charlie horse. This is usually due to not drinking enough water and or bananas as the cause seems to be a lack of potassium. This is a great remedy because it can cure your leg cramps and heartburn.
According to one study done in the Annals of Otology, Rhinology and Laryngology, another one of the side effects is hoarseness and coughing. They studied a group of patients and they found that a low acid diet was the answer. They gave the 20 patients lots of high pH foods which are low in acid. They were told to avoid the low pH foods like tomatoes, barbecue sauce, oily, fatty and fried foods. At the end of the experiments, 19 of the group were much better and of those, three were actually reporting the complete lack of symptoms.
There is a very interesting recipe book called “Dropping Acid: The Reflux Diet Cookbook and Cure” written by Dr. Jamie Koufman. Low acid foods include soda bread which is very popular in Ireland and contains baking soda which is also a good cure when you have severe heartburn. There are also oatmeal cookies, dairy free pastry and also other recipes which do not use acidic foods or at least those with high pH scores.
Most people think that when they are suffering from heartburn side effects, they will have to change their diet to something which is so bland that they will never eat again with relish. There are many recipe books on the market now. Finding the right foods which are low in acid content is dead easy. There are delicious recipes such as oven fried chicken, grilled lamb chops with cucumber relish and so on.
If you are worried about heartburn side effects, there is no need to be. Diet is just one part of a holistic solution which could have you back in form in no time at all!
