Mrs Blanks Underwear - This Is A Hillarious Dryer Vent Cleaning Story

Before I go into details, there is going to be some censoring and sensitivity issues that will be dealt with about this story. I didn't go through my attorney to state that, it's just a public courtesy. Regardless you'll still get the full flavor of this dryer vent install. Without further introduction, I'll set the scene for this dryer vent install.

This was an afternoon call and me and my co worker were dead tired. We were headed to our next job and didn't have time to take lunch. As we hopped in the van, we had to figure our route to the next job and how much time it was going to take us to get there. As my co worker was fumbling through the Montgomery county maps, I proceeded to call the the next call slip. I had the van running and was headed towards the next job. I could barely hear over the vans engine but wanted to contact the next appointment to assure them we were on the way. Between my co worker barking out directions and me talking on the phone I made a bit of a mistake.

As I was calling the next appointment I was also asking my co worker for the next turn. Between the humming from the ladders on top of the van and the engine, it was really hard to hear anything. As I was listening for a response from the phone I was also trying to figure out our next turn. The customer answered the call and I mistakenly replied " Is this Mr or Mrs. Blank?" I then got a very clear earful that rang " BOY! I don't know what kind of women you HANG out with, BUT YOU'VE got some serious EXPLAINING to DO!".

Come to find out Mr Blank was a retired marine Sargent, and I had just asked him if he was a he or a she, you can imagine the earful I was about to get. After I got my verbal thrashing, and my co worker stopped snickering... Mr Blank, started to explain his predicament The dryer vent hadn't ever properly worked, so they had run a temporary vent out of the garage door.

Upon further inspection, we found that the dryer vent had never been vented to the outside. Matter of fact it had ended at the siding. You could poke your finger right through Mr Blank's house in an eight foot diameter circle. The builder never exhausted his dryer vent. We were able to use his existing vent to exhaust the dryer, but you can imagine the state of mind Mr. Blank was in.

I had shown Mr Blank The new vent cap and explained that the builder never properly vented his dryer. He now had extensive damage to his sheathing and wood framing. If Mr Blank was a tea kettle he'd be steaming. I then walked him to the laundry room where we were cleaning out his dryer vent. Since it never exhausted properly it was severely clogged.

The laundry room was a mess, there were clothes everywhere. My co worker was already behind the dryer and was hooking up the shop vac. As Mr. Blank and I entered the laundry room we must have startled my co worker. The shop vac fell out of the dryer vent and began screaming and humming. Something was clogging the vacuum. Mr Blank said "What the heck is going on in here?". My co worker quickly picked up the vacuum to inspect what was clogging it. As he raised the end of the vacuum, you could clearly see Mrs. Blank's underwear were clogging the end of the vacuum. Just as soon as you could see them the vacuum sucked them up. With a final thumping noise, the underwear joined all the lint and dust inside the vacuum.

Mr. Blank saw the whole thing and wasted no time giving my co worker a verbal thrashing while I snickered in the background. It was his turn to get the earful from the retired marine. We ended the job on good terms, and have been back every year to clean his dryer vent. We just ask that any personal items be moved away from the dryer vent.
