Mike Milbury Charged With Child Assault: Former Player And Coach Suspended From TV Job For Now

In a dozen seasons with the Boston Bruins, Mike Milbury established himself as a thug, an enforcer and aggressive player on the ice. During one memorable game, he established himself as all of those things off of the ice as well by climbing over the plexiglass into the stands and hitting an unruly fan with one of his own shoes. Milbury was one of three NHL players suspended for multiple games for that incident, also paying out a $500 fine as well. The fan was sentenced to jail time and a fine as well for his role in the altercation

Milbury, now nearly sixty years old, went on to coach in the league and also served as the General Manager for the New York Islanders as well as serving as an analyst for CBC and NBC, especially during the Winter Classic and the Stanley Cup playoffs for the latter In 1990, Milbury took the Bruins to the Stanley Cup finals. .As GM for the budget hampered Isles, Milbury felt forced into a number of bad trades that he continues to take heat for, including losing some major talents to other teams at the detriment of his own team. His no holds barred manner and zeal for the game makes him a polarizing figure with people either loving him or hating him passionately. But, it has been his very passion about the game of hockey that has often gotten him into trouble. During the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals, Milbury made an off hand comment about two members of the Vancouver Canucks, identical twins, Daniel and Henrik Sedin, calling them "Thelma and Louise".

But, Milbury has crossed a line according to Brookline area police and is currently facing a number of charges following an incident during an exhibition game that his son was taking part in. Milbury is the assistant coach for his son's team and took offense to an on ice fight between an opponent and his son. Milbury is accused of racing out onto the ice where he grabbed the twelve year old by the shoulders, shouting at him and shaking him violently. The parents of that player are outraged at the behavior of the former player.

Milbury is being charged with assault and battery on a child as well as threats to commit a crime and disorderly conduct in connection with that incident. Both NBC and CBC have suspended him pending the resolution of this case.
