According to the New World Dictionary of the American Language, a Bully is defined as follows;
A person who hurts, frightens, or tyrannizes over those who are smaller or weaker.
The aforementioned definition should be enough conclusive evidence to substantiate my assertion. However, I will take this a few steps further. During the course of my years upon this earth, I have learned that mankind has the ability to use or twist words to fit their agenda. You may even accuse me of that. If you scrutinize the definition, you will not be able to find any wiggle room as it relates to a parent and a child.
I heard someplace that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Simply put, if you plant a corn seed, expect a corn sprout to come forth. Simple logic and common sense justifies that statement. if you can believe that, let's take it a step further and say, if you bully/spank a child, the results will manifest itself somewhere within our society. Mankind is a little different from the planted seed. The seed will remain where it is placed, and grow without any additional influence.
It really shouldn't require rocket science to understand that in order for that corn seed to grow, it had to be planted. This brings us to the seed of bullying. The same principles of nature must also apply. You know, action, reaction kind of stuff. Whenever a child is spanked, the bullying seed is planted. We further enrich that seed with our propensity to engage in other types of violent behavior, i.e., domestic violence, wars, our inability to compromise, etc.
When a child is given to us, the parent must plant the seeds of understanding and reason within said child. This will sound very stupid, but it should convince you of my point. When the child is born, ask him/her to define the words bullying and spanking. The only answer you will receive is a cry, and the cry was not precipitated by the question. It is a natural reaction for a child to cry.
When a child is born, said child is void of any intellectual ability to discern right from wrong. Any knowledge subsequent to birth is acquired, or learned behavior. When we in society hear of kids bullying each other in our schools, we will pretend the child is some monster from the planet violence.
We refused to acknowledge and address this source of violence, because we just can't bring ourselves to the point of admitting that mankind is the most violent creature on this earth.
