Sometimes I Wish I Was Still A Kid

I think it's ironic how when we're little, we are in such a rush to grow up. But then we become adults, and we miss being little kids. I remember being so anxious to turn 18 so I can move out, but then the recession hit hard that very year, and lo and behold, I still live at home. I have way more responsibilities now, and now I'm looking ahead at one day in the near future possibly being married and having a family of my own. Dang, where did the time go?

I miss being a kid. I most of all miss living in the 90's. Back in those days, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls were the team that everyone rooted for in my neighborhood even though the Lakers were the local team. The toys were amazing. I loved playing the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis at my neighbor's house. I would play baseball and basketball on the street for hours until the street lights came on.

Pokemon came out of nowhere and became a massive hit. Of course, all of my friends and I were obsessed with trying to obtain a holographic, 1st edition Charizard trading card, and we would never miss watching the show after school. The cartoons on Saturday mornings and in general were so amazing. I used to love watching Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Doug, Rocko's Modern Life, well the list can go on and on. And the T.V. shows like Keenan and Kel and Are You Afraid of The Dark were memorable as well.

Who could ever forget the Tamagotchi? It thrusted me into feeling like a father way before I was ready, but there was something amazing about showing off your pet to your friends for some reason. I got that thing taken away from me in class who knows how many times.

Back in those days, my only worry was what sport we were going to play during recess or P.E. We used to compete in flag football, baseball, and soccer versus the other classes in the same grade. It meant everything to me to win those games, and I would brag about scoring a goal or catching a touchdown to my parents when I would get home.

These were the days where life seemed so much simpler. And it really was if we really think about it. Hardly anyone had cell phones. The economy was going great. Gas was loads cheaper. And the music was of better quality than today. Back then nobody had facebook, so if you wanted to contact someone, guess what? You actually had to call them or see them in person. It seems like such a foreign world to me now, but I sure do miss it.

A great article. I was brought up in the 50's and 60's. You better believe life was simpler, safer and saner. And the music was and still is the best. But i really like what I see in the young entrepreneurs here. Despite growing up on video games, T.V., Facebook and cell phones I see real talent and a very strong commitment to freedom and engagement.

Yeah there's definitely talent out there, and the new technology makes it way easier for people to get well-known in a relatively short period of time. However, a lot of people misuse it and use it for ignorant things. Oh well, hopefully I can help inspire people my age to use tools like facebook and twitter to build for their futures rather than being drama queens lol.

Lol can you imagine what I feel that was brought up in the 70's :). What scares me is that if we don't watch ourself and the generations to come we will end up being asocial beings and what will be seen as diplomacy was earlier seen as normal curtecy. We as a human race are loosing some of our all important social skills to the age of technology. I've got a timer on my kids tech habits and make sure that it never goes above normal socializing with friends (they are actually big fans of normal board and card games) :).

Awesome! I hope you bought them candy land, that was always my favorite board game! And yeah, if I could choose to live in a different decade at my current age, I'd live in the 80's or 90's. Heck even the 70's sounds interesting lol. These days everyone has gotten so narcissisitic (don't know how to spell that) thanks to facebook and instagram. It's crazy. I long for simplicity.
