Let me ask you a simple question. Would you like to spend more time at home with the ones you love? Of course your answer will be yes. Who wouldn’t? While there are many different ways that you could spend more time with your family, I want to focus on something else. I want to talk about some of the advantages of family time that you may not have thought about.
A child’s performance in school shows a strong positive correlation with how often they have conversations with their parents. This includes things like answering their questions, listening to them, and even everyday communication.
Teens are less likely to participate in drug and alcohol use when they spend more quality time with their parents. This one isn’t too difficult to figure out why. Teens that are with their parents will not be pressured by their peers to try these things. Teens who look up to their parents, and have a deeper respect for them will not want to disappoint them.
You will eat healthier! Think about this one. What do you eat on your lunch break at work? Whatever it is, it’s probably not as healthy, or as relaxing as a family meal. Not only is the food a higher quality, but also the meals will be on a more regular schedule. A lot of jobs have meals that are not at a set time. Some jobs require you to wait 6 or 7 hours before your lunch break. If you are spending more time at home with your family, than you will also be eating at a more regular time.
You will have a better marriage. Some of the top reasons marriages fail are finances, communication, sex, infidelity, addiction, and many others can be solved by having more family time together. Why? Family time improves family bonding, builds trust, and gives you and your partner accountability. All of these benefits can, in one way or another, solve some of the top issues for divorce.
I know what you’re thinking.. “I would love to spend more time with my family, but I have this thing called a job that I have to spend my time at. How would I support them without my job?” That’s a very good question, and there is a good answer.
You have to get rid of that job! But not so fast, first you have to find another way to support your family. While family time is extremely important, putting food on the table and a roof over their heads is equally important. Building an income from home (where your family is) takes time and commitment. When it’s all said and done, your family will thank you for your decision.
