I Swear I Am Not Interviewing For A Job Ever Again

The headache, sweaty palms, the racing of the heart, the inability to form complete sentences, and the sheer humiliation of it all. No I didn't have a heart attack or fall down a flight of stairs, although I would have been better off with the stairs as opposed to the dreaded job interview.

One day after two interviews gone bad I stood in front of the mirror and declared, "I swear I am not interviewing for a job ever again!" and I meant it this time. So I headed to the internet in search of the perfect lifestyle change; not a job but something I would enjoy doing that would also meet my financial needs while allowing me the freedom I so desired. I had heard the talk about being your own boss, and work at home moms. My solution...

A Home Based Business

A home based business was the perfect solution to avoid having to sit through another interview where I had to try desperately to sell myself to an employer. Home-based businesses is the new trend. You only need to read the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for proof; millions have quit their 9-5 rat-race routines to work from home. My determination to stop the interviewing madness was one of several reasons why I turned to the internet.

How To Get From Point A to B and Then C (it's a process)

After making up my mind to start my online business came the realization that I had no experience and didn't know who to turn to for help. Therefore, I started with a search on Google. I entered "how to start a home based business" in the search box and low and behold there was tons of information. I also Google "internet marketing forums" and once again there was more information then I knew what to do with. Here are some first steps I learned to consider when starting an online business.

Starting An Online Business - Things To Consider

Find a unique niche for your business - this is actually your first job and is all about identifying a need and targeting your customers. You of course will need to know who are the people that will be buying from you or using your services and determine how you can give them what they need. This concept is the same for both online and offline businesses.

What's your business plan? It's important to set goals and objectives and then design your strategy for attaining them. So take out your paper and pen and decide what it is that you want to accomplish. List your short-term and long-term goals with the date you expect to achieve them; this helps keep you on track.

You will need a small amount of money for the purchase of a domain name and web hosting for your online business. This is a very small investment compared to having an offline business where you need to rent a space, set up furniture and fixtures, office equipment, electricity and so forth. There are many advantages to owning an online business.

Construct a content rich web site. The more useful the information and content you provide the more visitors you are likely to receive; the idea is to keep them coming back and to have your visitors refer their family and friends.

All the above sounds great; however, I was searching for a business opportunity that was much simpler. One in which I didn't need to build a website, find a niche or pay to join and I would receive personal one-on-guidance. The single most important thing about establishing as online home-base business is to find one that meet your unique needs.

Street Talk

WOW, I certainly related to your comments on interviewing! Always so nice to know that others have gone through the same feelings of inadequacy and embarrassment. How I loath the hours after the interview when I am picking apart every half-sentence, every blank stare and what now appear to be the most inadequate responses ever!
