Telecommuting is a great way to move out of traditional employment. Rising gas prices are challenging for people in entry level positions and those who are struggling financially. Moving away from full time employment outside of the home is an option for anyone that is serious about a work at home job. Here are some thoughts on telecommuting positions.

Many employers do not have any fees involved to work for them. These free work at home jobs sometimes do have some hidden costs. Examples are having a functional home office. Employers expect that all employees will have a computer in great condition, internet access, and the proper headset for taking calls. The job description usually contains all of the required hardware and software that is necessary to perform all of the expected job functions.

Training with most companies is paid at an agreed upon hourly rate or as part of the salary. There are some companies that have unpaid training classes. Completing the class and passing a certification test may be required before an official position is offered. Many jobs that have unpaid training have an extremely high turnover rate. Proceed with caution with companies that have unpaid training.

Online job descriptions often list any additional hardware requirements during the first training session. Some companies may send these out by mail, at no additional cost to you. There may be a need to print off certain paperwork and fax it in to a specific department each week. Some companies may give a detailed list of software that must be already installed in the computer before work can begin. The software may be compatible with Windows or Linux computer systems. Some soft wares are emailed to you directly to keep internal company security. Always mentioned if a Mac computer is being used, there may be a different program needed to run the company interface from home.

Start searching online for jobs that fit the hours and pay that is desirable. Look for industry specific job boards to search on. Sign up for a Linked In account and fill out a professional profile. Use the resources on that social networking website to look for open positions and to network with other professionals.

Keep a journal of all jobs that were applied for. Spend a few minutes each week improving your resume. Always spend a few extra minutes to customer tailor a cover letter for that employer before sending it. Letter an employer know what you are capable of in the cover letter, is one way to get a call back or to encourage them to open your resume. Star your internet careers by taking action.
