So you brought this precious bundle home. This is most important and rewarding experience you will ever have. Your days and nights are consumed with feeding, diaper changing and rocking baby to sleep. You wonder how, in 6 weeks, you will ever go back to work. You can’t imagine spending one minute away from him. You think about this clearly and thoroughly and think that it may be best if you were a stay-at-home-mom.
After all, being home with the baby has tons of benefits. No one will care for your baby better than you will. You will always be there to breast feed your baby whenever he’s hungry. You will be there for all the memorable milestones-the first time he sits up, his first steps, his first word. You don’t have to worry about a stranger raising your child and possibly being exposed to poor behavior from other children as well as illness. No to mention the money your family will be saving considering how expensive day care is. So you have made your choice. You will be a stay-at-home mom.
Problem is, now your family is down to one income. You have to make your dollars stretch. You can no longer buy stuff on a whim. Everything needs to be budgeted carefully. Although that cute outfit that is on sale at Target would be perfect for your baby, you need to use that money for diapers.
After a couple months your baby is on a schedule. He naps at least twice a day and you can somewhat plan your day. You wonder how you can work from home to fill that gap, you know, the one that is preventing you from buying cute outfits and baby gear. So you start to research and you decide that you can do something extra. You are going to be a work-from-home-mom. Not only will you have the extra income to buy the things that you want for your baby, but you will also regain that self-esteem that you had when you were out in the working world. And if you put enough effort into it, you may be able to start your own business.
I have been and am in the same place. I want to raise my children and be home for all the once in a lifetime events. I want to work from home , I want to be there for my kids. I want to be able to afford all the little things that make me and my family happy.
Good article and I hope you are able to stay home with your little one.
Thanks Rick, this was an easy article to write actually, because it came from the heart and personal experience. I hope to stay at home with my 3 little ones!
