Apple Pie Moonshine is my favorite homemade adult drink. It can be made with Moonshine from your own still, or everclear grain alcahol. Both liquids are 190 proof and are about 90 percent alcahol. It is one of those mixtures that just sneaks up on you. The taste is exquisite, but the result can be dangerous if abused.
Ingrediants:
- 1 1/2 gallons of Apple Cider
- 1/2 gallon of Apple juice
- fresh cinnamon sticks 4 or 5
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1 1.75 L and 1 750 ml bottle of everclear or (Homemade moonshine)
Directions:
- Pour Apple Cider and Apple juice into a 5 gallon steel pot. Turn burner on med-hi. Add Cinnamon and spices to the mixture. Let the mixture come to a slow boil. Stir and let cool. Do not add the alcahol!!
- Take a strainer with small holes and add a cheese cloth to the strainer. Pour the mixture into the strainer in small increments. Make sure there is a container below the strainer so you dont lose the liquid.
- Once the mixture is cool and strained you can add the booze. Make sure you continue to stir for about 2-4 minutes.
- Next is the messy part. Bottle the mixture. I usually store them in mason jars. Mason jars come in many different sizes.
Before you bottle you might consider storing the liquid in a 5 gallon water jug with a tight seal. I usually sore it in my basement where it is cool for about a week. This step is not needed or proven, but its something I do to enfuse the alcahol with the juice. After the storing step is complete, I bottle them in Mason jars and use for personal consumption or give out to my friends and family.
Apple Pie Moonshine is an excellent drink for parties and social events. Just like any alcaholic beverage, they must be used resposibly. No one in the USA under the age of 21 is permitted to consume alcahol.
A Recipe for Disaster!!!
Making your own grain alcahol can be tricky at first, but once mastered its like riding a bike. First you have to make a Mash. The Mash consists of corn, sugar, water ( preferably distilled), and hi active yeast. That's it just those 4 basic ingrediants. For the corn you can use Quaker Oats Corn meal for smaller batches or what I use is cracked corn. The cracked corn takes longer because it has to soak to soften. Hi active yeast can be ordered online or at a brewers store locally.
To yeild about a gallon of shine simply take 5 gallons of water, 1 1/2-2 pounds of cornmeal and bring to a rolling boil. Then let cool, once cooled the mash should look like a lumpy paste. When the mash is luke warm add about 5 pounds of sugar and 1 ounce of hi active yeast. Pour mixture into a 5 gallon water jug or clean container. Install an air lock at the top of the jug. Let the jug stay in an area that is between 60 and 70 degrees F for a week or two or until the bubbling process has slowed or stopped.
Now you are ready to brew!! Add your mash to your still. Using an outdoor cooker make sure the temperature of the mash does not exceed 176 degreesF. A great temp to shoot for is 173F. Once the desired temp is reached you will slowly begin to see a clear liquid drip from the worm hole. If done correctly you should get about a gallon of White lightening. Mix your White Lightening with the above recipe and enjoy Apple Pie Moonshine. Drink with caution!
