Prevent Bed Bugs Infestations

Remember when people tell us "don't let the bed bugs bite"? It is true! They are small bloodsucking insects first lived in caves a very long time ago. They survived by sucking bats and caveman's blood. When cavemen learn how to live and build houses, these bugs came along with them. It is hard to spot this insect because of their size. They are so small. They can come in to the tiniest cracks of our walls or even through the outlet.

They use their senses to detect temperature and carbon dioxide released from animals and humans. They only want one thing from us. Blood. When they get closer to us, they use their antenna to find the best and juiciest part of our body where they can suck blood. They can consume blood up to three times their weight. They use anesthetic that makes it impossible for us to feel them sucking our blood. Thousand of these insect bites can cause anemia or low blood but they do not transmit disease.

These bug infestation can be seen from our own bed or 15 feet from it. It doesn't matter if you have luxury bedding or not, clean or cluttered, these bugs will stay. These are a few places where we can see their hiding place:

1. Mattress / Bedding

2. Bed Box Spring

3. Night Stand

4. Pillows

5. Behind the outlet cover

One way of killing these insects is heat. Studies shows that a steam cleaner is a powerful enough for killing these insects. It can kill adult bed bugs and eggs. Steam cleaner can kill but it won't stop bed bugs from moving in. Bed mattress and spring boxes encasement is effective for killing and preventing bed bugs to live in our bed. They are use to cover our beds. In this case, no bugs can get in and out. And of course pesticides. Which we all know is very effective on killing bugs but make sure that the person applies it is a professional. Another prevention is by checking all furniture that goes in to your house. Specially used ones. Bamboo Cotton Sheets may be preventive from dust mites but not to these bugs. So don't think that mites and bed bugs are the same. Here is a blog with a video talking about bed bug preventions.

Bed bugs infestation is not a personal problem. It is a community problem. So it takes a community to stop and prevent this infestation.
