There are few destinations in Pakistan as exciting as swat for those who seek adventure. Home to the only major skiing resort in Pakistan, Swat welcomes thousands of tourists every year as they look to enjoy their vacations by skiing all over the grand slopes offered by the region.
The Malam Jabba ski resort is the Mecca of skiing in Pakistan. Standing at a steep 8700 feet above sea level, the resort receives almost 10 feet of snow. It offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding peaks as well and the forests are sight to behold on their own. The ski resort itself has plenty of amenities.
There are 35 furnished rooms with all basic amenities as well as two ski platforms. There are many other value added services on offer as well. These include private transfer service which picks up tourists from the airport and transfers them directly to the hotel as well as a guided tour of the city. There are many trekking opportunities as well. One of the more popular treks is through the Ghorband Valley which eventually leads to the Karakoram Highway. The other path is through Soboney valley which passes through orchards and pine forests.
Skiing in this particular location is especially wonderful. This is because the height gives one a sense of dominance and achievement. The presence of experienced instructors makes it easier for even the beginners to take part in the adventure sport. On a clear day, skiing can be fun as you glide down the slope viewing the valley floors and pine forests move in sync with you.
The situation in Pakistan hasn’t always been conducive to the growth of skiing as a proper adventure sport. The region of Malam Jabba and Swat experienced heavy violence by extremists and it was only after a full-fledged military operation that normalcy returned to the region. Despite the effective army action, Skiing has been unable to gain back its image. Many tourists opt to stay away from what is perceived to be a troubled region. Even worse, many consider the sport to be over. This is not without reason as there is little patronage from the government. For the locals, however, this sport is an important source of livelihood. Such is the passion for skiing that the locals set up their own chairlift in order to transport any potential skiers to the hill-top.
The locals are committed to the sport and have received support from many sources. One such source is the Pakistan Army which helps local ski instructors and arranges regular ski festivals. Such events have allowed building the awareness regarding the sport as well as attracting plenty of tourists to the region. However, a lot still needs to be done. Many locals lament the fact that the government pays no attention to the sorry state of affairs. This is largely true as most governments have chosen to ignore the issue which is considered by many to be a relatively less important one. For details about ski resort visit tripkar
