The transmission of the motivation can be learned, but the base of it it in oneself, the motivation of the team, begins with your motivation.
Motivate somebody means to transmit the energy and the confidence to him, so that their actions are voluntary and committed instead of forced. You must trust on your team and they must trust on you.
We must determine the factors that can motivate each person, there is no a common pattern, each person is different, although if there are subjects that can be basic and common between them. But the motivation of a team is not based just on common rules but of both types, common and individualized.
The motivation of a team member can go from a salary increase to cover basic necessities, up to the support and the tools required to reach his/her objectives. In most of the cases, the salary increase is just a temporary motivation; or it becomes a constant (every year you will have a salary increase), or the motivation is ephemeral, a month after the salary increase your motivation will return to be where it was.
In order to motivate the team, it is necessary to consider his scale of values and objectives that they are looking for, this is the simple part. The complex part is how to motivate those team members for which its work is nothing but that an obligation to earn money.We can and we must motivate them, they must be our main objective, our challenge.
What points are important to motivate to our team:
- Your Motivation. The team always must see you as a motivated person, in all your actions, but specially motivated with them, with their growth.
- You are Responsible for them. They must have the confidence that when problems with third parts will arrive, you are not going to leave them alone; you are going to be side by side with them, for the good things and the bad things.
- Your Plan for them. You have a customized plan for each one, not a general plan. Within the common ambitions, you must motivate your people with personal ambitions. They have to realize that they have a very important way to build. Everything of course inside the Team
- Your Support. All the previous points, does not have sense if you, without your support, without your presence, without your constructive criticism, without your capacity to modify the plan if it is necessary.
- Your Proximity. You need to be close to him/her when needed, but also just for him/her to feels that you’re there. This implies he/she can tell you anytime what he/she thinks/feels, and even when you think that it is not correct, you will seat with him/her to analyze it. Your primary target is to find out what there is of certain in it and in case that it would be correct, recognize it and of put measures to solve it.
- Recognition of its work. Yours and extensile to the company and mainly to the team where he/she belongs. All the successes and capacities of a member of the team must being put in knowledge to the rest of the team. We will reinforce his/her values.
- Responsibility in the work. He is one of the key factors, to give the confidence and the necessary responsibility to the members of your team, this way they will feel important. Their work must provide them small satisfactions; the responsibility on certain actions supposes an initial extra motivation and a continuous dose.
- Apply their ideas. Another important and necessary key factor, is to achieve that your team members express their ideas to improve the area and as far as possible to put them in practice. It is important to obtain the participation of all them in the day by day, but if their participation remains in just words we will be losing its motivation.
- The Labor Climate. Perhaps we can obtain our team motivated without a good labor climate, but what is clear, is that with a good one things are simpler.
- Flexibility in its working time. Each member of the team must be the owner of his/her time but also or his/her responsibilities. This is dangerous, but well applied it is very motivating.
