Psychometric Testing for Recruitment

In a hiring process, it is important to make distinction between applicants according to the job requirements to make the right decision. There are certain traits that are required for certain job descriptions.

Usually while hiring, the HR personnel interview the candidates and observe their traits through their CVs, but are these tests adequate? Psychometric Tests allows HR staff to make educated decisions about their workforce.

What is Psychometric Testing?

It is not some kind of capability test. It is a measure of aptitude, testing the personality and intelligence of an individual. These tests are essential in streamlining the recruitment process by sorting the applicants according to various factors. Smart HR decision makers use psychometric testing to ensure right job placement and identify personality disorders for training and development of the staff. HR personnel need to know these Psychometric Tests well and they must be able to reflect on individual scores.

Purpose of Psychometric Testing

Psychometric tests help organize the hiring process. The purpose of these tests is not to weed out the unintelligent or unnecessary candidates. They help the employers to organize the potential of an individual and place them accordingly. Some jobs require more of mathematical skills while other need more verbally affluent person, psychometric tests help find the right person for the right place.

Here we should keep in mind that there is a key difference in skills and traits. Traits are the basic characteristics of a person, whereas skills can be acquired and improved via training.

Measurement and Job Profile

Without proper apparatus, psychometric tests won’t suffice alone. For instance, while it can be very useful to test several candidates and receive practical insights about them, but to compare them correctly, we need proper data storage system.
