Save the Rhino

Now the lure of hunting appears to be not able to leave man alone. The thrill of the hunt, tracking skills, staying upwind of your prey and then of course a high powered rifle to even the odds. That is just the way it is and no doubt will always be? Now there comes a time when all thinking people have to draw a line somewhere, doesn't there? Now this line is. Do you hunt an animal into extinction, for the thrill and for the pleasure? I am reasonably certain that thinking peoples answer will be no, even amongst avid hunters. But then of course human nature plays its natural course all along the line. This being money and greed. Now if you are poor to start with but someone provides you the means, namely a high powered rifle and promises you money to kill provided you bring back proof of the kill. Now this becomes an entirely different ball game. It's sadder actually than what you may realise.

Now in Africa there happens to be a great animal or beast known as the Rhinoceros. Hereinafter referred to simply as the Rhino. Unfortunately for this great beast amongst certain Asian populations there is a widespread belief that the horn of the Rhino has certain properties which makes it an aphrodisiac. Moreover a certain one. A sure fire winner if you can get a woman to take it without her knowing. Once she has taken it, you as the man now become irresistible to her.

Why any man has to go to these lengths to get a woman attracted to him in the first place, remains of course the biggest mystery of all? Yet it happens and it happens worldwide albeit not all using the properties of the Rhino horn. There is something so sad and completely uncalled for amongst all this isn't there? However there is big money to be made out of all this.

So what happens is that the people with the money and those who are really making it, arm a simple peasant with a high powered rifle and send him into the fray to take all the risks for little recompense. Most of the Rhino left (now so few) are in game reserves run by governments or some in private game reserves. What this means is that there is a large anti-poaching presence armed and ready to defend these beasts from the poachers who are out to kill them for their horn. It is a dangerous pastime for the poacher. Sadly, more often than not they make the kill and then head for safety into a neighbouring country.

It has reached the stage now were the Rhino is on the verge of extinction. Concerned people are now making a supreme last effort to try and avoid this. It remains another classic case of to little to late? You might be even more surprised to learn how few people really know about this and how few people really care. People from all around the world have got to make a noise about this and as fast as possible. Spread it fast and wide. The Internet works this way.
