Wars

We have heard of the Revolutionary War, Gulf War, World War I and II, etc. in our lifetime. We may have even expressed some interest in studying them, wondering how did the great minds of war lead the troops into battle. Inside of a full scale battle are many missions that make up the face of the engagement, and usually determine the winner of the conflict. Some popular war missions are the Attack on Pearl Harbor, Tet Offensive, Gettysburg, and many others.

The ones that I just mentioned not only reversed the momentum to the other side, but is noted in history as some of the best wartime missions ever planned. War buffs, soldiers, and other war enthusiast love to see how the maneuvers and planning helped shaped the outcome of these conflicts.

One purpose of Airsoft

The game of airsoft gives these enthusiasts the ability to replay, relive, and experience these tactics, without having a death toll. It gives them the rush of battle, without the bullet holes. The significant of airsoft is that a lot of “games” reenact battles fought in real life, movie battles (Hunt for Red October comes to mind), or a made up missions. Games like Capture the Flag, Take over an Enemy Campsite, Tip the Barrel, or Numbers are just a few games out of many that could be played.

What is airsoft

Airsoft is defined as "A game where opposing teams use either electric, gas, or spring powered replicas of real guns, to propel a small diameter ball-bearing(BB) at the opposing team." (Urban Dictionary Online)

How to play

You usually play as teams, but there are individual mission also. There are endless amount of war games that can be played. Your imagination will create the fun.

Airsoft teaches you how to work as a team to achieve a common goal. It teaches you how to plan and overcome obstacles in order to complete the task.

Classes of Guns

There are four classes of airguns: gas (CO2), electric, pump, or Pneumatic Airguns (PCP). Each type of gun has its own pros and cons to why you would want to use a particular style. A lot of it depends on if you are a serious player and just for recreation. Gun can range from $25.00 to over $500.00.

Safety equipment

Airsoft guns can pack a powerful punch so safety equipment is key, especially eyewear. This will be the single most important piece of equipment you will need. Some additional equipment that may be helpful would be long sleeved camouflage wear, boots, extra clips, and most important, water.

Dangers

There is a risk of danger when playing airsoft. If you are in the woods, there are bugs and animals and the risk of getting lost. Poison Ivy, cuts and scrapes are common. A twisted ankle and heat exhaustion are a couple of other examples of injuries that may occur.

Exercise

One of the benefits to Airsoft play is that you are constantly running (unless you are a sniper). This game offers great exercise and works for endurance training also.

Who can play?

This game can be played by participants of all ages. The serious players who are into the sport can be pretty intense, so I do not recommend those fields for little kids. However, indoor arenas are great for birthday parties and the like. It is a great starter place into the sport.
