Trophy Hunting And Hunting Safaris

To live in the great African outdoors, my what a pleasure. The thing about Africa is that it is in fact a harsh and unrelenting country. So many wild and dangerous animals. So many snakes. So much joy and so much heartbreak. So many diseases, rabies being a particularly valid one. Animals which have this dreaded disease are dangerous beyond any telling of it, because once they have it they are mad. The long and short of all this, is that for people who set foot there for the first time and had the added advantage of being armed with rifles. Well you better be able to shoot and shoot well. Your life depends on it.

But time moves relentlessly on and times always change. So what happens is that there is a huge difference between being able to shoot and shoot well in order to either protect yourself and more importantly feed yourself. As time moves on and more and more people arrive, this also includes being able to feed and protect your wife and family. Or when times change and this is no longer necessary, shooting for fun and the pleasure of this?

But how have the times changed? Well for a start your country has built up an agricultural enterprise. Now amongst many crops and vegetables for you to assuage your hunger. You also have, provided you are a meat eater and most are. Cattle, pigs, sheep and chickens just to name a few. And whilst agriculture has improved this has also driven many of the truly dangerous animals out. The Leopards and Lions have been shot to protect your livestock. Elephants too to protect your crops. On and on it goes so where really is the necessity to keep on shooting to feed yourself?

In amongst all this of course you also have the nature and animal lovers who are saddened by this. Now as a means of conservation and to avoid these animals facing extinction. Nature reserves and game parks are made to protect them and provide a welcome for tourists or any one who has never seen one of these animals and would love to.

But people still love to hunt, it's something atavistic within the nature of man. So hunting safaris come into being and of course game farms to provide a place for hunters to do this. In some places there is no need to do this, normally in remote areas where big game roam freely. Elephant, Buffalo, Giraffe, you name it. There is big money in this no mistake about it. Sometimes known as trophy hunting where hunters shoot and kill an animal purely for the sake of hanging it's head or skin or horns on a wall or a couch or as a carpet.

Now for the better part of my life I always saw nothing wrong in this provided it is done properly keeping conservation in mind. Just lately however I've begun to change my views. It seems such a waste. Just saying and everyone is entitled to their own view.
