Many people who engage in dieting are of the opinion that if they eat less they should lose weight, but they soon find out that life is not that simple. I have known overweight individuals who have tried all the diets in the world and at the end of the day they continue to battle with their weight problem. Aside from those persons who are genetically predisposed to weight gain, there are people who continue to lose the weight control battle primarily because of the foods they eat on a daily basis.
What is obvious here is that there is a lack of knowledge with respect to how the body works. The body is an amazing biochemical machine that was designed to be self sustaining. It was designed to preserve itself at all cost and so, if its mechanisms are working correctly, efforts to disturb its natural homeostatic state will be met with immense resistance. The problem is, there is no one exact homeostatic state; it is whatever the body perceives to be homeostatic. So, if you are slim it resists all weight gain attempts and similarly, if you are fat your efforts to lose weight will be thwarted.
I am sure you probably have seen those slim guys at the gym daily lifting weights and doing whatever to pump up the muscles and add pounds only to be disappointed; because after all of their efforts they gain very little. The fate of over overweight people is not much different; after all they consistently do at the gym often times they are discourage because of slow and sometimes no progress. Well believe it or not, many times the message our body receives is totally different from the message we send. We may wish to burn fat and so we diet in hopes of achieving this goal. However, because of our dieting our body interprets this as a need to conserve and store fat and this makes it almost impossible to achieve our weight management goals.
Obviously, if we wish to control our weight we must get our mind and body on the same page. One way to do this is through the food we eat. Some foods like hot pepper tell the body to turn fat burning on while other foods like rice and bread force the body to reduce fat burning or in some cases turn fat burning off. If you want to increase fat burning, a general rule of thumb is to eat foods that have low glycemic value. Foods with high glycemic value tend to increase fat storage and increase your chances of developing conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
