High blood pressure is a serious health condition often associated with other health challenges including heart and kidney disease. Statistically, more than a quarter of the world’s population is afflicted with this ailment but too few people are aware of the presence of high blood present until they present with other related conditions such as strokes. Nowadays, efforts are being made to arrest this condition in its early stages when it is less intractable to treatment.
Persons who have been diagnosed with high blood pressure (hypertension) can avail themselves of a wide range of treatments including prescription drugs and natural remedies. In many cases individuals have found that blood pressure can be brought back to normal range by employing the following strategies:
1. Strategy One - Lifestyle adjustments: If you are a smoker, quit smoking. There is a high correlation between people who smoke and hypertension. Consumption of alcohol must be eliminated. Because the caloric content of alcohol is high it tends to lead to weight gain and increased triglycerides (fatty deposits) in the blood. This extra load increases the amount of force necessary to circulate the blood through the body ergo hypertension is the result. Reduce the load on your heart and your blood pressure should return to normal.
2. Strategy Two – Increase movement: I deliberately did not say exercise here because I don’t want persons to think that they must take out membership in a gym or get ready to run a marathon. All you need to do is to increase your daily physical activities. This could be as simple as taking a walk around the block, fetching prints job from the printer, walking to get lunch rather than driving, cutting the lawn or pushing a wheel barrow. I know you see what I’m getting at; all I’m suggesting is that you should get moving. Of course if you can add a daily exercise routine, that would be excellent since exercise is known to reduce blood pressure.
3. Strategy Three – Watch your diet: “You are what you eat “is a true saying. If you pump yourself up with saturated fats, bad carbohydrates, refined sugar and salt your arteries will soon become clogged with fatty deposits and plaque which will make it difficult for the blood to fight its way through the system. The extra force the heart has to exert to distribute the blood through the body leads to high blood pressure. You can avoid this by simply changing your diet. Eliminate sugar and salt and replace the bad carbohydrates with good carbohydrates found in fruits and vegetables. Minimized your consumption of animal fat, use fish and chicken as your primary source of protein. From time to time, small portions of meat from grass fed cows or goat meat could be included in your diet. Persons who follow these dietary suggestions often experience normal blood pressure in a very short time.
These strategies along with regular visits to your doctor should help you maintain your blood pressure within the recommended normal range. Persons who are borderline hypertensive should find the strategies detailed above especially beneficial as they may even be able to lower their pressure without the need for medication.
