Top Super Fruits That Are Rich In Antioxidants

The body is pre-wired to always maintain a state of equilibrium and so the slightest indication of instability ignites a rigorous attempt to regain this sense of balance. In a way, this is great because when illnesses strike it means that the body has the capacity to heal itself. The instinct to maintain stability is perhaps most evident in the bodies daily task of dealing with oxidative stress – a constant battle to regulate the activities of rogue cells whose original functions have been thwarted.

As cells process oxygen they go through a process called oxidation which may result in some molecular damage. This damage prevents cells from carrying out their intended purpose; instead their effort is spent attempting to repair themselves. Often they damage and destroy other cells in this process leading to, in part, a condition known as oxidative stress. This is the precursor to serious illnesses like coronary heart disease and also the ignition of the debilitating effects of aging. To correct and prevent oxidation, the body sends out an army of defenders known as antioxidants. Antioxidants are found in the foods we eat. Fresh fruits and berries are known to be rich in antioxidants and are highly recommended as part of a healthy diet.

I have listed four of the top berries that are fountains of antioxidants. Adding at least one of them to your diet will ensure that your body can effectively fight off the ravages of many common health challenges and also stave off the deleterious impact of aging.

1. Aronia Berry: This newly discovered super fruit is native to North America and is said to be effective in fighting and treating just about any health condition.

2. Blue Berry: This rich source of antioxidants is also found in North America. It has the distinction of being among the earliest of the super fruits to be touted as a super berry.

3. Goji Berry: Goji berry comes from a shrub-like tree found in China. The fruits were initially used to promote long life. Nowadays it is recognized for the treatment of hypertension and diabetes.

4. Maqui Berry: Found in the equatorial forest of Chile. Originally used by native Indians as a cure for a myriad of illnesses. It has recently gained fame as one of the most potent super fruits.

A body fortified with a good supply of antioxidants is the best defense against the ravages of free radicals. You can ensure that your body has a good supply of antioxidants by eating well and engaging in sensible lifestyle habits. If you haven’t already done so add at least one of the above super fruits to your diet.
