Watermelon: A Natural Sexual Boost

I wrote an article earlier regarding the proper way to eat watermelon knowing that most people throw away the rind which, according to researchers, is the most beneficial part of the melon. The rind is that whitish part between the outer skin and the bright red inner core. Many findings confirm that this section of the melon is rich with an amino acid known as citrulline or L-citrulline.

L-citrulline occurs naturally in the body but as stated earlier it is also found in foods such as watermelons. Its primary function is to serve as a catalyst for the production of other amino acids including L-arginine. Amino acids are critical for the proper functioning of cells and the production of energy. When cells are starved of amino acids we tend to become weak and lethargic and often lack energy to carry out many daily tasks. Molecular dysfunction at the cell level may occur if cells are not provided with the proper ingredients to function. This of course may lead to the development many common ailments such as hypertension and diabetes.

Common ailments like hypertension and diabetes can be quite devastating to the body so every effort must be made to bring them under control hastily. In some severe cases persons may be prescribed medications to correct the problem before any further damage is caused. While many people report relief after having taken these medications, they also complain about many side effects; among them erectile dysfunction (ED). This is a disaster because as you know; the very essence of being for men is having the ability to copulate.

The cause of ED is not limited to high blood pressure medications or any other prescription, but a large percentage of men have been visited with ED after being placed on various classes of medication. It is believed that the prescribed medications often interfere with the proper functioning of cells and may also obstruct the flow of blood to areas like the penis. As you may be aware, the penis depends almost entirely on the unobstructed flow of blood to achieve and maintain erections. In instances where the blood is prevented from reaching the penis freely, erectile dysfunction may be the end result.

Men who experience erectile dysfunction would therefore need to ensure that blood flow to the penis is not impeded. Often diet, exercise, supplements or medication may be recommended to ensure that free blood flow is obtained. One substance that appears to enhance blood flow throughout the body is nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a gas that occurs naturally and is produces by L-arginine. As indicated previously, L-arginine is an amino acid that occurs naturally but it is greatly facilitated by the presence of L-citrulline. L-citrulline too occurs naturally but its availability can be enhanced based on the foods we eat. By eating fruits like watermelon we can increased the availability of L-citrulline which eventually should elevate the level of nitric oxide. It is expected that increased nitric oxide levels will engender the conditions that will result in sexual satisfaction.

Who knew the delicious summer fruit – watermelon also has such magnificent therapeutic properties. It appears that there is some wisdom in those old wives’ tales, yet. If you need to add more fuel to your engine take advantage of this scrumptious summer fruit and watch as it boost your sexual rocket to the next level.

Interesting articles, I am not a lover of watermelon, but my husband likes them, but I haven't seen him eat the rind yet.

Hi Elsie, many thanks for your comment. Not surprising your husband doesn't eat the rind - it's not a palatable flavor at all.
