Have you ever heard of hypertension? I would like to believe that in one way or another you have already heard of hypertension somewhere. Hypertension is more commonly known as high blood pressure condition and is a very common condition on the group of people within the working age around 30 to 60 years old. The cases are non-discriminative between sexes and both men and women are known to have these conditions. As the name implies, hypertension is a condition where the blood pressure is in an elevated condition of which depending the cause can be divided into two types which are primary and secondary hypertension. Primary hypertension consists of almost 95% of all hypertension cases and has no apparent medical causes. The secondary hypertension on the other hand are more apparent as it has a triggering case that often comes from trouble on the said patient’s kidney, heart, or arteries.

High blood pressure is a dangerous condition as it is a risk factor for other diseases that may be caught by a patient if the patient doesn’t do anything about it. Without proper care, persistent hypertension may lead a patient to contract myocardial infarction, heart failure, arterial aneurysm, chronic kidney failure and most commonly, stroke. These diseases are all related to blood and therefore are very sensitive to the way our blood flows.

As hypertension is often asymptomatic on most cases, it is often called the silent killer for its obnoxious habit of causing death on people who seem healthy in the first place. You may hear cases where a certain person that seems healthy one day and died the next day because of a heart failure or because of a stroke. This can happen to practically anyone and the only way to detect whether it can happen to you or not is by doing constant tension checks that you can do yourself with an automated blood pressure meter.

In hypertension cases, it is believed that prevention is much better than medication. Unless you inherit it from your family’s long line of hypertension conditions, you can always switch your lifestyle to a healthier lifestyle to prevent yourself from getting high blood pressure condition. A change in diet is much recommended as you are advised to eat less meat and salt and switch to food that are smoked or boiled. It is not really recommended to turn into a vegetarian as you would still need the substances you would get from eating meat; it is just recommended for you to refrain from over consuming it.

Regular workouts and cardiovascular exercises are also very important in keeping your body in shape to fight hypertension. It is advisable that you start changing your lifestyle since you are young in order to prolong your life expectancy and a fight to keep on living when you are much older would seem very much pointless. On patients that have none to little chance of changing their lifestyle too much, there is no other choice than to resort to medications. With proper medications and a lot of good rest with a stress free life, you might have chance to be free of hypertension for good.
