Why Background Checks Are Essential Before Hiring In USA

Crime rate has increased in previous years and companies regardless to their size are becoming conscious about the background of candidate they are hiring. Few companies have developed their own system of background checks but it costs a lot and the resources they use are also limited. Now companies prefer to take a look into the person’s criminal records before hiring them.

In America, crime rate has increased in the previous years. Latest statistics released by FBI shows that the number of murders with firearms has also increased in the previous year. About 6371 people were murdered with hand guns in 2012. There is a separate list which shows the number of murders with other firearms.

US RANKED FIRST IN GUN OWNERSHIP

When we analyze the US population from gun ownership prospective, there is a major problem which can be seen. US are only 5% of world’s population but it has 88 firearms per every 100 people. Result of research shows that 35 to 50 % of world’s civilian owned guns are in United States.

BACKGROUND CHECKS OF WHITE COLLARED EMPLOYEES

The percentage of crimes committed by white collared employees in workplaces is also increasing. The violent behavior or breakouts in work place draw the attention of media which effects company’s repute and affects the business badly. This situation has made companies more careful with employee hiring process and they have made contracts with private agencies for background checks of people they are willing to hire. These private firms have access to government database and they have their own resources as well. Some have their websites which are offering anonymous search facility.

Usually companies ask for written consent of applicants for a background check. This throughout search includes going through the credit history, social profile and criminal records of that person. It is completely understandable if a seafood company wants to go extreme for the background check as seafood can be easily used for the smuggling of drugs or illegal items. These companies have even hired private detectives to ensure that their business doesn’t become a carrier of illegal items.

There is only one disadvantage of backgrounds checks. They are usually very costly. There are a few website which are offering unlimited free background checks but their resources are limited and they can’t be relayed on for a thorough check. These websites uses the database which is made public by state website and anyone with a little know how of internet can search direct from the original list of people.

The main purpose of these checks is to ensure that the people a company is hiring are honorable and have no past history of theft or violence. The data of background checks can make one aware that what kind of person they are dealing with and what kind of crimes can be committed by him in the future by examining his/ her history of violence. Some companies do the search only to ensure that the qualification which is filed by the candidate is true and for what position he/she is suitable for?

Some people who had bad experience in relationships become conscious of the people they are letting into their lives. They adopt the habit of looking into the background of people before moving the relationship to next level. The search results of private websites are more accurate and appropriate as they use government resources as well as their own to make the results reliable. These websites have made the search easy by offering various input queries. Records can be looked by using person’s title, phone, address or email id.
