Most of us are out of high school or (to younger readers) getting ready to get out of college. The age old question that almost everyone goes through is "Where are we going in our lives?". Most people tend to think about it when they are in college experiencing all types of things or.. people like me, who sit at home waking up everyday wondering what we are doing with our lives. Many people wonder if what they are currently doing is something want to continue to pursue for the rest of their lives.
I'll take my story for example, for I was thinking the same thing when I finally got out of college for my last semester. Now, at the time I had a job and to me that was fine. I didn't have the money to go back to college, however, I can start saving up money to get some of the essential things to get around (such as a car). This was a sound plan up until I lost my job a month ago. Ever since then, I've been desperately trying to find a job and try to get a cash flow back up. If I had of known this is what I had to look forward to when I got out of college, trust I would of done things alot different. But honestly, don't feel bad for me (if anything you should feel happy for me). Why? because I will remember this moment when I make it. I've always said to my friends that the hardships we all go through are nothing but part of our success stories.
A very close friend of mine is going through something similar. She attends college and we use to have alot of talks on the phone asking where are we going with our lives and having somewhat of a tough time. I just comfort her and mention it will all work out in the end (despite that being the generic "feel good" answer). I won't front like she hasn't helped me out at all, she has. Now I believe she's happier and have a better direction as to what she is doing with her life. I have another friend who recently enlisted in going into the marines (which is always a controversial subject among folk). Personally I supported it because I understand the hardships he's forced to deal with, one of them being the subject title. It gives him a bit of purpose and something to actually look forward to. He also mentioned that you can't ignore the benefits that they give, in which I whole-heartedly agreed with.
Now.. you are wondering.. why did I share my and a few friends personal stories? Because it all relates as to what and where we are going in our lives. We were always told that if we get an education then we can get that great paying careers and what not right? That's like part of the truth, considering that the jobs right now are not as plentiful when they told us. You hear stories of some people with bachelor degrees and yet working their butts off for that 7.25 per hour paychecks.
The thing is, we go through all types of things and yes, it will be difficult for a good little while. Consider this as life knocking us down. It is up to us to get back up. this is why your real friends and family are important, because we all can use a helping hand every once in a while. You can do it by yourself, but won't get nearly as far as someone else who has their family and friends by their side. if you are sitting around wondering what you are doing with your life, don't worry...because again we all reach this obstacle at some point. But picture this, when you get over it, you will become that much stronger. You are reading from someone who is along with you, questioning his direction. But I promise you will get through it.
My opinion on Where we are going in our lives:
Alot of my opinion is stated in here already, but basically I felt strongly about the subject considering to the fact I have these types of conversations often. Matter of a fact that I can't name a week I don't talk about it with my friends. But there are other people who go through the same thing and wrote this in hopes for them relating. Hopefully, this is to inspire people to work not only harder, but smarter as well. What I mean is being creative and make something that can help others out and in time, pay back to those that helped them out. And even if they don't pay you back, just knowing that you expertise in something helped someone out is a good enough feeling within itself.
