If you want to spice up the backyard design competition with your neighbors, try adding outdoor candle lanterns to your decor. Many of them are very inexpensive and fairly easy to find online or in a local department store. Whether your outdoor space is ultra modern or shabby chic, there are candle lanterns that can give your yard a prize winning look.
Candle Lanterns for Modern Outdoor Designs
Modern designed outdoor spaces basically contain straight lines and a nice, clean display. When choosing the candle lantern for this type of area, make sure that it also has sleek, clean lines. You will find that many of these types of lanterns are made of metal and glass, and are available in different sizes. There are Zen style lanterns that have Chinese writings and other Asian characters that will fit the modern outdoor space perfectly. Have fun with the placement, as these nifty little accessories can fit virtually anywhere. You can use them as a centerpiece, on a table, or line them up along the stairs of the deck or patio to create a stunning nighttime look. Outdoor candle lanterns definitely fit in the modern backyard design layout.
Shabby Chic Outdoor Designs
Don’t underestimate the Shabby Chic style! This is a very popular design trend for interior and exterior spaces. The rustic and “refurbished” look of these types of lanterns will fit into this layout well, and help define the overall theme. You will find that the majority of the candle lanterns in the Shabby Chic designs are primarily crème or white. Manufacturers use this color because it’s easy to manipulate to create a vintage feel. A hanging candle lantern or a tabletop design will work just fine. Try not to overdo it though, especially if you have other accessories in the area. Outdoor candle lanterns should add subtle style, not take over the space. In this type of design theme, they would look charming placed next to fresh flowers or mounted in the corners of the deck railings.
Glass Candle Lanterns
Some indoor candle lanterns can also double for outdoor use. Many people use all glass indoor lanterns on the deck, as this is the easiest and simplest way to add lighting at night. The glow of the flame is unobstructed and simple glass fits in any décor theme.
Whether you’re competing with the neighbors or just creating a tranquil, esthetically pleasing space, outdoor candle lanterns are a true no brainer for adding sophisticated lighting. By taking the time to choose a lantern that matches the current design of your space, you will ultimately create an area worthy of a spot in the Home and Garden magazine!
Now this is a read. I have two spaces on the water that are just kinda bland and there. Thanks for the advice, Ill be hitting HD tomorrow I think lol
I'm sure you will get to it when its time! There are so many ways to "spruce" it up without spending a fortune on contractors. I am a huge fan of candles and lanterns because they make the deck area look really nice at night.
Those are some great ideas. I haven't spent much time or money on my backyard- we've only had it for 2 yrs.
