How to Pick the Right Paint Color for Your Home

As we approach the year 2013, many of us have new years resolutions which we are trying to stay faithful to. Lets say one of your resolutions is to take on a home remodeling project either small or big and you are deciding how to pick the right paint color for your home. However at this point you are stuck on what to choose. Color selection can be frustrating because there is lots to choose from. Color is a big component in home remodeling and renovation because it is ties everything form the furniture to rugs, wall paintings and everything you could have in your room together. Seeing that color selection is important to the completion of our home projects , let me share with you some tips on how to pick the right color shade:

Pick your favorite color shade:

If you have a favorite color, choose that or one close to it. Chances are you will end up choosing it so go ahead a pick that. Why do i suggest this? You already like the color or love wearing it. Why not choose a color you love walking into your home and seeing. It's a beautiful feeling to just observe. If its red, go with red. Keep in mind that this color shade goes with the rest of the decor in your room. You want to avoid clashes and choose one that compliments everything else in the room. If color is too dark choose a lighter shade of that color which will be within the same color scheme and same if the color is too bright, go a little warm. If you got one, your color selection is either almost or already done.

Choose paint color from existing decor:

You can pick a color by considering the colors of your existing decor in your homes. It could be from your candles, chairs, a table set , a Persian rug in the middle of your living room . Find a color that is common in all and begin to select paint colors from there. This reduces what you have to choose from. For example if all pieces you have chosen for your sample have a common tint of green, then consider a green color scheme and look at other paint shades of green to get a unique color. You may need a color wheel to help you find other available shades of that color. As it is easier to stick with the basic primary colors red, blue green and yellow, there are thousands of secondary colors you can choose from that will enhance the final look. By choosing from the color of everything else in your home, you are working with what you already have and therefore adding what is needed thus saving you time and money.

Choosing the right paint color for your home shouldn't be overwhelming with these few tips. Favorite colors are a great way to start, so got with that, If you still cannot figure what you want to choose, then use what you already have. Colors from furniture, antique jars anything in your home can help you narrow down to your right paint shade.

Hi Racheal, I'd like to add one thing to what you have advised. When choosing a wall color, be sure to try a patch of the color on the wall before purchasing the paint. Often times a color looks great in a chip, but it might need to be tweaked. It might be too dark, for instance, and you might have to lighten it up. Also, look at the patch on the wall in daylight and at night with incandescent light in the room. If you can assess it on a sunny day and then on a rainy day, it's a good idea to do that before actually painting the wall. Color changes. If it's on your wall, you want to love it.

and for heavens sake if you live in Florida or other places where it is warm most of the time do not ,make the color of your house or your roof a dark color....It makes your house many degrees hotter and ridiculaously harder to heat.
