Tuscan Rod Iron Wall Décor – Turn Your Home Into A Tuscan Villa

Who doesn’t love the rustic elegance of a Tuscan villa? We immediately envision a terra cotta farmhouse with the red tile roof. This outdoor appearance is seen frequently in subdivisions being built today but this is where the Tuscan style usually ends. We’ve all seen movies where the romantic Tuscan interior has us dreaming of sitting on a terrace with a rod iron railing while sipping the latest wine from the vineyards.

This same ambience can be re-created in your own home with a little imagination and elbow grease. One of the cornerstones of Tuscan interior design is the texture and appearance of the walls. The terra cotta finish is a symbol of the Tuscan landscape and provides the perfect backdrop to your rod iron wall décor. You can either actually finish your walls with a terra cotta plaster, or paint them with a faux finish if you’re on a budget or in a time crunch. Either way, your walls will provide the canvas for your Tuscan design.

Once your canvas is ready to go, you’ll be ready to begin choosing pieces that will bring the desired look and feel to the room. Rich, earthy tones are best and most appropriately reflect the Tuscan style. When people think of Tuscany, they most often think of vineyards and most designing in this style base their color schemes on this premise. Grapes and wine bottles are also a mainstay and many of the design pieces reflect the wine theme. The deep burgundies, greens and golds all blend well together to form that perfect eye-catching look.

Tile also provides a nice and rich backdrop to the design. Bathrooms and kitchens are the perfect places to experiment with tile to add even more flavor. However, caution should always be used so that the space doesn’t become busy or cluttered where the eye can’t focus on any one element. Tuscan style is based on an open and airy space and too many elements can make the space appear smaller than it really is. This is also true of the accent pieces used on the walls and tables.

Once the base design is complete, you’re ready to put up your Tuscan rod iron wall decor. These pieces should be evenly spaced so as not to appear on top of each other. You could start by placing similarly designed pieces closer together, however, some like to put completely different pieces in close proximity for more of an eclectic look. Remember, the heart of Tuscan design is a rustic look that compliments the more modern pieces in the room. As an example, many houses decorated in this style have stainless steel appliances that still blend well with old world chic.

Rod iron wall decor has been around for centuries and continues to be the perfect accent for many design styles. With the right finish on the walls and a few well-placed pieces, you can convert your home into the Tuscan villa you’ve always imagined.
