Have you ever parked your car in a parking garage or very large parking lot and forgot where you parked your car? Or have you walked up to a car that looks exactly like yours, stuck the key in the lock to try to open it and can't, then realized it is not your car? I am assuming that everyone has done one of these two things at least once in their lifetime. I know this has happened to me on more than one occasion.
If you think about it, it's a wonder that it doesn't happen all the time. Most dealerships only offer a limited number of vehicle styles and colors, so there are many cars out there that look the same inside and out. Unless there is something different about your car, it would be easy to confuse it with another. So how do you remedy this problem? You should decorate your car.
I am not saying you should do some kind of wild thing to your car like add a big paint job or anything. I'm suggesting that you could make some subtle changes to your vehicle to make it stand out just enough from the other cars like yours so that you can see a difference. So how can you do this?
You can add a thin pinstripe down the side of the vehicle. Many body shops have the ability to add something like this to a vehicle in a very short time for a very reasonable price. I added a pinstripe to one of my vehicles that was very narrow (2mm) and it somehow made my car feel a little more "sporty" as well.
I have seen some people add a decorative ornament to their rearview mirror. This is simple to do and can easily be changed. You need to be careful, though, because if you add something too large, it could block your view somewhat. I was in front of a car that had some kind of crystal hanging from their rearview mirror once. It gave off different color reflections that I could see out of the corner of my eye and I thought I had a cop behind me with his lights on!
Another thing I have seen is that people have been adding vinyl decals to their cars. I really like these because they can be personalized. I have seen cars with sports figures decals that have the person's name underneath. I have seen the stick family decals for families. These are cute because you can pick each different personality in the family and then put them together on the back window. I have also seen some cars that have floral patterns in the corners of a window.
There really is so much out there that you can do to make your car unique. You don't want to be like me and try to get into the wrong car! So stop and take a minute to find some ways decorate your car!
